Hi friends,My dad is an engineer and work for 12-13 hours a day he is now 55 years old, from last 20 years he is having smoking habit, and not 2-3 literally 7-8 per day, i really hate his smoking habit and tried to convince him to leave smoking and he tries too but was not success to leave smoking, now the problem is as his age is increasing he is facing many new disease and that is the result of his smoking habit from years but still he is not leaving it, i don't understand why a person can't leave smoking although he know that he is taking slow poison? Now a days their are many ayurvedic and homeopathy products out in the market who said that by taking it regularly people can leave smoking& many therapy centres are also working for this issue, but i consulted my family doctor he said that all these things are totally fake and will not work if you don't have strong will power to leave smoking. So what do you think, why smokers are too helpless about their smoking habit?

Thank you very much for your advice i will definitely try this, may be by taking substitute he can stop smoking, recently he also suffers from cancer so he started to become concious for his bad habit.& you are abosolutely right smokers feel that they are in different world,my dady said that he feel relax when he smoke at the time of tension.but i think this is not the right way to run from problems.

It is very difficult to one to leave smoking because one becomes addicts of it fully..I think this thearpy centre didn't work really...Inner motivation is mostly needed to get rid off from this lousy habits...

Yes this thearpy centre or medicines don't work unless you don't have a inner motivation to quit for smoking. It's difficult but not impossible to leave we can see in this discussion only many people leaved smoking for his gf/family members. it means some were still hope is their that smokers can leave smoking.happy mylotting.

We (some of us) have a hard time quitting because its a habit...a habit that we are addicted to...for many its the nicotine addiction, possibly even for most but for me personally its only PARTLY the nicotine...for me its more the physical addiction and psychological association with things I do every day....Yes we know its bad for us physically AND on top of that its FREAKIN EXPENSIVE!! but like any addictive habit its a tough one to break and the long one has been a smoker the harder it is....For example it would most likely be harder for ME to quit smoking than it would someone who's only been a casual smoker for a yr or two..Why? Becuase I've been smoking for 30 yrs now.. As for the ayurvedic and homeopathy products you mentioned..well those only work for SOME ppl...Even the doctor prescribed products only work for some AND those arent cheap either so many ppl can't afford them.... IMO in order to quit you have to REALLY want it AND REALLY work at it...ANY smoker can quit...but not all that try really have the deep desire or determination to..LOL then there are ppl like me who have no desire to even try.

Why?I mean about not having a desire to quit smoking, just look at me i feel really bad when i'm strick with my dady and many time i even scold him,if we know that the thing is bad for us, we should try to leave it atleast to decrease it in your case.anyway it was just a advice from a stupid teenager so don't feel bad but try to leave it.Happy mylotting.

hi gracce, I am a smoker and I have to tell you that it is an extremely powerful addiction which is why your dad is struggling so to quit. I think the help quit products might just help but you have to truly WANT to quit in order to succeed. Even then it is not easy. They say it is as tough of an addiction as heroin and we all know the quit rate of that. You can't push your dad to quit because it won't work. It just won't.

Hello sid,you are absolutely right that it's a powerful addiction but i will never let any addiction to destruct his health,i'm sure any addiction is not more than his life & the day he will realise his family members feelings he will definitely leave this addiction.& i will try my best it's ok if it's not work but atleast i will not feel guilty that i never tried.anyway happymylotting.

my father is a chain smoker and he's been smoking since...i don't know! he's in his early 60s. we've urged him to quit smoking but we don't think he'd be able. but the good thing is that he does yoga and other exercises whenever he gets opportunity - be it while sitting during a journey, while taking rest, etc. so he has a good health and i've never known him being seriously ill. i was also kinda chain smoker too for several years. but now i rarely smoke. sometimes i do smoke while drinking or after meal. but overall i rarely smoke and spend days at a stretch without smoking. thanks mostly to my girlfriend - i quit at her behest!

Yes,young people can quit smoking compare to old people like your and my dad, because of their age their body and mind is not ready for any type of change even they will retire and live a peaceful life then also they can't leave without smoking.it's good to see you stoped smoking for your GF.happy mylotting.

Dear friend, It is only one thing that is addiction. This just reminded me of a friend of me who have to choose his love and his smoking addiction. He chosen his love but due to addiction to his smoking he was unable to quite it. There he has broken his love, but lucky his love did not break and still he is addicted to smoking. I could see the most effective treatment for this is here in our local Ayurvedic doctor who says it is just psychological. He gives few tablets to chew when one feels to smoke. My uncle a chain smoker had quite smoking from his treatment after various other treatments. May be just give some to chew or eat at the time one feels to smoke.

everyone knows that smokong is bad, yet there are many youths and adults out there smoking. smoking kills the body from head to toe as it affects every part of the body. in my country, any smoker can go to any government hospital for treatment. i really dont know the sucess rate. my boss stopped smoking instantly when he was admitted to the intensive cardiac ward. his wife, family and friends could not stopped him. i was told prayer helps to stop the person from smoking when he ask God to help him stop his addicted habit. the family can help him by praying earnestly and ask Almighty God to help and He will as He is understanding and compassionate.

That's nice,I mean about your country where any smoker can visit govertment hospital for treatment, but here smoking is not a big issue, even drinking is legal in some states,So this issue is for those only who suffers from the ill effect of smoking,& you are totally right smoking affect each and every part of our body.but unfortunely today's youngsters are not realising it's illeffect.

For my opinion smoking habit will become a vice. It's hard to say goodbye. I can say we must live our lives to the fullest not to poison. thanks for your wonderful message.

Hi gracce, Nicotin makes a man most addicted among all narcotics available on earth. To some people like your Dad,will power alone won't help.He requires serious and conscious intervention of you support. What you people need to do is to pose strong to him and have to make him engaged in duties like reading you out an entire novel without having break except for breakfast, lunch and dinner. One novel complete and another novel in and you people should always be there with him.Restrain him from meeting his smoker friend.Just stop him for 3 days.He may face traumatic nights, but you've to be strict. After 3 days he will grow enough will power to deny anybody's offer for smoking. But even then you should not leave him alone. The 1st day is very crucial.Try this.

Hey,thanks it's a great idea, but my dady is quite short temper person we try this when he was hospitalised but at that crucial time also he can't avoid his habit and even doctor said that sudden stop will create negative impact in his mind but 2-3 nonsmokers friends of my dad is willing to do anything to stop him smoking i will share this idea with them may be if we all try at the same time then it will work as your idea is a permanent solution of this problem.

because their body got used to it and can't stop anymore coz they think it's part of their system and they would die if they stop and the only way i think they will stop is when somebody close to them got sicked due to 2nd hand smoke that is far more harmful:|

It seems that I have the same condition with you.My dad is a office clerk and he is 48 now.He began to smoke at the time he started his job.I hate the terrible smell!I have tried many methods to force him to leave smoking .He agreed to leave it,but he gave up several weeks later .I have lost confidence now.I believe it is laborious for him to leave it.To decrease the maybe realistic. When it comes to the reason why the smokers can not stop smoking,I think is the habit. My father has viewed smoking as a action that must be done everyday&everytime.Maybe only by medicial methods will the smokers leave it:(

Oh i feel bad for you as i know how it feel when we see our elders taking slow poison,ok we children not speak anything but we love our parents, but they are not wrong as their age is too much for any sudden change in their life, but i wish my dad and your dad leave this habit otherwise it's only going to bring new problems to our families.
