Would you sue the government??

Money gained, money lost!! - Killing yourself over losing money playing!!

This couple retired and moved to the city. They started going to the Casino (government owned here) and they both played, the husband more than the wife. He lost nearly $600,000. in 6 years and he killed himself on the day he lost $6,000. Now the wife is suing the Government saying they are seducing people in playing by offering them VIP cards, free meals, even free hotel rooms. Would you sue the government, blaming them for the suicide of a loved one?

No, I wouldn't blame the government for my husband's addictive behavior even if they were aiding and abetting...

I don't mind once in a while, but as soon as I'm not winning, it's not fun. No way can I see myself letting it go to where it would hurt me financially.

I gambled once. Put some money on a horse because I liked the name "Grateful Snoopy" was the horse's name and when my dad came back, he told me the horse was still running. I felt really bad for having lost my $5. Of course my dad won. He used to win all the time but I refused to put anymore money on gambling!!

I think she just couldn't accept the fact that the husband killed himself for the loss of money and debts he made just by being irresponsable ast let me say stupid. The government will always try to make money like this, smart people will not keep playing once they lose a certain amount of money, the guy kept going and by the age of retirement a person should be a total grown up capable to make decisions wisely, the guy didn't lost and killed himself, the government is not to blame, the guy is. That's my opinion :)

Thank you for sharing your opinion Freeboy!! Thats why I started a discussion to find out what others thought about this. Yes you'd think that a 74 yrs old man would be mature enough. Yes the Government will always try to make money off us. Their survival depends on it.....and ours too. The more money they make, we pray the less taxes they'll impose on us!!

definitely not... i am responsible for my own actions... why should i blame the government for my gambling addictions??? i am not being force to gamble and i gamble out of my own will... why should the government take the blame for it??? this is ridiculous... also, if i kill myself, i am the one who choose to kill myself... again, nobody force me... people just need to learn to take responsibility for their own actions and stop blaming others... take care and have a nice day...

the couple could have seeked therapy for that matter. in some countries, they wouldn't mind it coz they would think it's a shame to do so. it's not either the governement's fault coz it is not even a lawbut merely part of it's promotion to raise revenues. it's not even forcing people to gamble. the citizens have the prerogative to grab or reject the offer. :)

Hello Cherrc, you're right, they could have sought therapy, they even offer it now. I guess they didnt want to take the trouble to go through that. You're right, we can grab or reject and its nobody's fault! Thank you.

Traps are set everywhere, as simple as that you could get addicted to internet or even TV, same way the couple got addicted to the game. Now after loosing everything, they don't want to call it a game anymore. So, its their fault!

I will not, to go gambling or not is a person decision and they must responsible for every act they do. if you chose the wrong way its not polite to blame someone else. this senior should know if they go gambling there is big chance they will lose, that why its call gambling.

That is ridiculous. Good luck suing the government. The majority of people that try to are not successful. This is yet another case of someone eschewing personal responsibility. Gambling is an addiction. There is treatment but the person has to be ready and want to change their ways.

Don't you think it's about time we start taking responsibility for our own actions. We need to stop looking around for someone else to blame. No matter how tempting they are there are always choices.

Of course not. No one required them to waste their money on casino. I just they would just have to deal with the consequences of their decisions.

No.. not really... In my opinion its persons responsibillity to go or not in the casino... casino owners who ever they are, they just want more money.. they don't care about anything else.. It's not their responsibillity.. there is a good chance to win the trial of course, but i really believe that we should have restraint...

Poor wife. Her feelings are taking control of her judgment.

No why should you? The couple did it t them selves not the government. Even if the casinos give a lot of VIP cards or what ever the casino dishes put it's their way to attract costumers/player . Now in the couples point of view it's a law suit that is going no where. Some people just can't control them selves when it comes to gambling. When you lost a certain amount of your saving to gambling just stop. And don't blame anyone else it's a control thing if you loos control of your self you are going nowhere when it comes to gambling
