Covens

Hello there. I've been blessed with being invited into a coven with some very lovely pagans. My Wicca 101 teacher asked a couple of us to join with her. We dedicated a few days ago. What are your experiences as being part of a coven?

Why don't you want to be part of a coven?

Where did you took Wicca101? Wiccans are so rare here in my country. And when I found a coven, it's too far from my city. I envy you so much. I've always wanted to be part of a wiccan community since I was 12.

I was looking for a long time too. Its funny because I just took Wicca 101 to find out more about the religion. I ended up really changing my lifestyle. THen I was invited to join the coven. I think it happens when your ready. But you also have to put your feelers out into the local community.

try wiccaweb or witchvox. Those are both international sites with community hookups. I live in a biag city though so there are a lot of pagans in my area. They just aren't super vocal. You can take wicca101 courses online as well. If you can't be involved in person.. .perhaps finding a network of pagans online might work for you. I've also heard of online covens... though I'm not sure how those would work.

A pagan in a very general definition is someone who worships multiple gods. (some don't) They often follow gods from older mythology. There are various types of pagans. Wicca is one subgroup of pagans. Generally most pagans have some sort of connection to the earth. Pagans are definately not on the dark side. I believe in light, peace, and love. Some people call pagans evil, however most pagans don't believe in evil. They generally believe in varying degrees of negative and positive energies. Its not a cult. A coven is really just a group of people who practice the wiccan religious practices together. Its like a very small church.

Well there was.... oh no, wait, that's oath-bound. I think any experience you have will depend on the group itself and how it is structured. Some have a very well defined way of doing things and others are more free-form, either can be good but only as good as the folks in it.

Yes I'm finding some parts of Wicca are more structured than Catholsism!

That's because, while Catholicism has a bit in common with Judaism in the structure of their services, Wicca is a direct mirror of the Hebrew traditions of worship. For example, Jews worship on the Shabbat. Wiccans have the Sabbath (same thing, really). Jews celebrate the New Moon, as do Wiccans. I'm not trying to bash your religion, Monkeyrose... However, I'm from a small town, and the Wiccans there do some pretty strange things. Gives me the creeps.

Strange things like what? I know I am never going to get an answer from you. Just to note is just the way they do things, and they do not even believe in Satan. I guess by creepy things you mean, rituals, candles, altars and such.

I've never been in a coven befvore but it is something that I'd very mucyh like to do. I have started to practice Wicca by myself and while I'd like that group there for funa dn elarning and that sense of community I wowrry about how to find the right coven for me. I dont wnat the whole cult feel but I would like to be with people who are more dedicated. How did you find these find other pageans from this coven? Because Im not sure where to look for this. I thought that I might start my own and find some other wiccan girls around my age or soemthing but again, im not quite sure where to start looking...

It can be a very rewarding experience to join and be involved with a coven as long as you know what you are getting into. You have to make sure the coven is legit and how they do things. There are some Good as well as Bad to join like everything else.
