Why are we counting the illegals?

It is cencus time. And we are counting the illegals? Why? it is not like there is a box on the cencus that says are you an illegal. Then at least we would know how many there are and where they live. But there isn't one. So they will be counted the same as everyone else that is a citizen. The cencus is for counting the citizens in this country. they are not citizens. The cencus is for alloting federal money and representation for citizens....well the illegals are once again not citizens so why are they being counted for an allotment of resources and representation?Anyone explain this to me?

They are being counted because the Democrats wabt to make them citizens, so they can have them vote for them later.

I agree illegal aliens should not be counted in our census. Or if we're going to count them, we know their status. I don't mind checking a box on the form that says "US Citizen".

We should either count them separately or not count them at all. They are not citizens.

Do you really think that they're going to complete a form that says, yes, I'm here illegally and this is where I live and how many others are living here with me? Like it or not, they use resources so the government should have some way of knowing how many are in which states.

Of course they won't "out" themselves. But they shoudl not be counted and they should not be allowed to use our resources. They are not citizens. It is that simple.

The problem is that there is no way of knowing who is illegal and who is not when the census people are sending out the forms. That is why I like the idea of just cross referencing Social Security numbers to know last residence. All the Commerce department would need is so special software. All citizens have Social Security numbers, and illegals would not.

With unemployment and home foreclosures so high right now, you wouldn't get accurate information that way since there would be no way to account for the folks who moved to another state following a job loss or those who had worked in one state but reside in another and haven't worked in their new state. My oldest daughter is an example of the latter. She worked in Maryland but her fiance supporter her and the kids until she decided to go to work about 8 months ago. Had the census been done last year and did the cross referencing you suggested, she would have come up as living in Maryland, not Florida, because that was where she had last been employed.

Yep...that would do it. Except for new babies and I sure the census people would be able to see when someone did not have SS number and the age was listed in months or weeks...that it was ok...that it was applied for.

Ya know lil, that is a huge problem. And it is not something I see the current administration fixing. (there would go their voting base). People who do agree that this is a problem are called prejudice and bigoted. So no I dont have a good explanation nor a solution that could happen anytime soon. I would suggest adding that question, but I dont really see people saying that they are illegal.

One reason that I can think of for counting them is because my state, Florida, is spending a lot of money on them.

Oh I know they would not acknowledge they are illegal. But a lot of them are scared to fill out the census for fear for getting caught. A lot of state are going out of their way to get them to fill out the cencus. Why not just let them NOT fill out the cencus. Don't count them. They are not citizens.

The Democrats want more voters and to be able to redistrict to favor themselves in more places. In my state Acorn has been notorious for signing up illegals to vote for Democrats. Also, the Democrats passed legislation so illegals can get a driver's license which of course is the main means of identification.

Ya...you know why they let them get a drivers license...because in most states taht is all you need to vote. So they get vote without being citizens. More illegal unethical BS from our elected officials.

Illegal immigrants use resources just like the rest of us do...emergency rooms, schools, etc. If the government is after a count this is the only way to get an accurate one. I don't agree that they should be counted...but I also don't agree that they should receive government aid and services but apparently they do.

Actually, lil, due to the inaction of the government in prior years, it's impossible to deport the massive numbers of illegals that are currently in this country. I wish they would...maybe my son would still have a job if illegals weren't undercutting Americans in the construction and home improvement industries.

sorry to hear about your son....my state has a big illegal problem too. And they ARE taking jobs people want like construction and home improvement. Jobs that usually pay well...until they came along. That is why we need to deport them. We have sooo many unemployeed...those jobs need to go back to americans.

They need to be cut out of our resources. They need to be deported...but I guess that is asking too much...for our government to enforce the law.

I wonder just how many of them will fill out the paper work.....The only ones who want them counted are the Democrates so that will give them more voters in at election time......Cause who every makes them legal will be the ones who gets the votes..... After all why should the fill out the paper work anyway cause they are already getting every thing they want....they come in and can get welfare and food stamps and any other thing the government haa to offer without paying for it they have already busted California.....If they would have to be legal to get welfare more of them would go back where the came from.......

The states want to count illegals because they will receive more federal funds if they have a larger population. They get more funds for schools, libraries and other types of public buildings, roads and services. I can see their point in that they are going to provide schooling to the children, whether the parents are legal or not. The states are pushing hard to convince illegals that it's okay to fill out the census. The White House is promising not to use the information against the illegals, including assuring them that even the Patriot Act won't get them access to the data. I don't believe that, myself. The census is back in the hands of the Commerce Department and ACORN is no longer involved (at least officially). I was very concerned about the Census when the White House was going to do the counting, since it is used to redistrict and apportion representation, as you say. Would people (including the illegals) be so very worried about this Census if it didn't ask so many personal questions (such as asking for your home phone number)? I cannot imagine why they need this. I do not want them to call me, I don't give my phone number to anyone unless I suspect I would allow them to call me.

Well their children if born in the US are citizens so they should be counted. But the parents if illegal should not be counted. If the kids are illegal they should not be counted. As for data being secret from law enforcement....ask the internment camp victims from WW2. Our government used census information to round up Japanese americans during WW2. So no the information is not safe. They have already proven that. As for the phone number...I plan on not giving mine to them. They don't need it. It is none of their business. "none of your business" is exactly what I plan to put on it for my phone number. They can snail mail me if they have any questions.
