Hard disk support intel D101GGC

Hi my computer config is listed below. intel D101GGC Motherboard intel p4 prosessor(3.06Hz) 1.5 GB ZION RAM (1GB + 512 MB) 80 GB sata 1 seagate HARD DISk. I want to replace my old Hard disk with new 500 GB seagate(sata 2) Hard Disk. My mother board will support the new one or not? It will slow my computer or not? Please dont ask me to change my config. I will bye the 500 gb hard disk tommorow. Please assist me I should bye it or not.

sata 2 is backward compatible. The only problem you will face is you won't get full speed of sata2 on sata1 interface. But tell you the truth, you wont even notice it. So don't worry and just buy it. There will be no issue.

Thank you for your reply. I have gone through some articles and found that there should not be any problem. sata(1.5gb/s) and sata2(3gb/s) so I was little worried. Can anyone suggest me which hard disk i should bye. western digital or seagate?

both brands are really good. but i'm an system administrator and i go through a lot of hard drives problems. i'll recommend western digital as my experience with western digital hard drives is much better than those seagate hard drives.

even i am having the same configuration i planned to buy 250Gb seagate hard disk costs only 1400/- so the thing is our motherboard is compatible with only 1.5Gb/s pls consult with the shop and then proceed.
