What you decide to call your dog in the first place probably reveals more about your personality than you expect. Your dog's name says a lot about who you are. The name of a dog reflects the personality and sense of humor of the owner. So if you call your dog 'Bear,' you probably love outdoor adventures, but you also have very loving side to you and are secretly longing for warmth and protection. Your pet's name will often reveal your interests, even if these change as you grow older. What's your pet's name? Does the name mean something?

A good and valid point...kevinll...but doesn't always hold true. It is a time old tradition if you own a purebred, and register them with either the CKC or AKC (they are registerable)...it is required in the registration that their sires/dams names be included in their registered name! For example: I owned a purebred West Highland Terrier...her sire; Peppermint Dandy...her dam: Moe-Lei McCaw...so I registered her and called her; Moe-kei Mint! My current dog is a Jack Russell Terrier...his registered name is "Salishan Bruiser" (as he is a big JRT) but from the revered Salishan line....I simply call him "Brui" (as in Brew)! After registering the name, you can call them anything you like on a day to day basis...but a dog/cat behavourist told me that it is much easier for these pets if you use a monosyllabic name...easier for them to distinguish. Cheers!
