Hi everyone, I recently had my own netbook as a gift from my parents. I love it so much and I handle it with care everyday. I'm so grateful I had my own laptop courtesy of my loving parents. I'm not really "techie" and know a lot about troubleshooting a computer, and I'm concern if my downloading could affect my laptop. I'm very fond of downloading movies, music and sometimes, softwares. I use it everyday and some files are really big. Could my downloading crash my laptop? Your thoughts are very much welcome.

congratulations for your new netbook long time downloading could affects bad on your netbook. i mean when you let your netbook working for a long time some parts could damage by heat. but don't worry because this rarly happens especially if your netbook brand is reliable. another thing, avoid puting your netbook on your lap areay or stomach because i read once that causes infertility especially for men.

Hi florida, Maybe I should purchase a notebook cooler to lessen the heat, what do you think? Well I hope my netbook won't be affected by heat because I use it for too long. My netbook brand is HP. I think it's very reliable and trusted brand. Thanks for sharing that infertility information, I'll make sure not to put my lappy near these areas and I'll pass the information to concerned users as well.

Hello princess, you're indeed very lucky to have loving parents and also to have your own laptop. As to your question, yes it can crash your laptop. It would slow down the speed performance of your laptop. Downloading movies, music, software, and other programs, etc., consumed a lot of memory; therefore, they can totally slow down and eventually end up crashing your computer. My recommendation would be to download only some of the important programs or software that you think would be helpful on your part and discard those programs which are useless. One more thing, you will also be at high risk of getting a virus in your computer, especially if you're fond of downloading files. Even a strong antivirus cannot 100% protect you from getting a virus. So my recommendation would be to download carefully from a reputable site only. Happy mylotting!!

Hi braveheart, Thanks for the advice. I'm always extra careful when downloading, and I make sure it's from a trusted site. But I can't help to limit my downloads, there's so much good stuff! However, I make sure I'm protected by my antivirus and ensure I had enough memory. I hope this would help me prevent from crashing. Thanks for sharing!

Not really but you must be careful on what and where you are downloading from. There are so many viruses over the net that can penetrate to your computer that may cause it to bug down. Before you download anything, make sure your firewall is on and that you have an updated anti-virus. This way, you can be sure that you are not also downloading malware of any sort.

Downloading won't crash your laptop if you have at least 80 gb hard disk. It is the virus from downloading might crash your laptop so be careful what to download in your laptop. Enjoy from downloading something that will make you happy

Normally, downloading should not cause a computer to crash. It's the spyware, malware, or viruses that almost always crash a system. If you download from P2P networks, the possibility of getting attacked or infected is always present. Make sure you install a good antivirus and antispyware software, get updates regularly, and turn on the firewall. That should help to minimize the risk.

If you download conflicting programmes yes it might crash your laptop. Downloading lot of songs and films should not crash your computer but it certainly will slow it down. I would make sure to transfer any movies and music on cd or on external hard disk. Installing lots of unnecessary programmes which some of them can be conflicting might crash your computer.

It all depends on how much RAM and how big your harddrive is in comparison to how much you download. I recently bought a netbook and take care not to download too many things on it. I use it mainly surfing the web on the go and I leave downloading lots of software and files to my laptop or desktop. You also have to be careful of malware and make sure you have a good anti virus program. Background applications that may be a result of the malware may be slowing down your netbook.

I don't think this will create a problem for you! What might be a problem is, movies, music, games and all these things, they take up a lot of hard drive space so a good tip would be to purchase an external hard drive which you can connect to your computer via its usb cable and you can then store all your movies and music on this. This will save the hard drive space on your computer. Good luck. Andrew

Hi onlyprincess, I have a my own computer for almost 6 or 8 years now and based on my experience first thing you need to know before downloading stuff in the internet is it is VIRUS FREE. Once you've downloaded a virus into your notebook, it would be a huge headache :)) Secondly, make sure you have enough space on your Hard Disk. Too much stuff in his HD may make the notebook run slower and crash which is totally not nice. Lastly, be sure to perform little maintenance on your notebook, like clearing some cookies, defragmenting to make it in good shape :) Have fun with your new notebook :)

It shouldn't crash your laptop. Unless you are downloading REALLY much until you have no more disk space left. Consider deleting some old or unnecessary files if you are going to download new stuff so your Hard disk won't get full :)

hello princess first of all as a computer tech I don't think downloading alone will cause pc to crash, the possible reason I see why it was crashing while downloading are viruses, insufficient HDD space, overheating, and sometimes when you download and install a software which not compatible with your cpu it also leads to crash, hope this helps. happy my lotting :D
