Business advertising help.....

I have some smaller things that I do around my house and I am looking to hopefully be able to potentially start my own smaller business out of it. Now while I will be able to sell some of these items around my own town I am also looking to be able to sell some online to open myself up to more customers. My only problem is is that I am not much of a social person so while word of mouth is the best way to get yourself out there I am a bit lacking in that area. So my question is what is that best places to advertiseand help get yourself out there? I am looking for a place that is very cheap and even better free. Also any info on sites other that eBay or Amazon that allows you to sell on their sites would be great....
