People who can read but just stubbornly don't

Hi everyone! Have you ever encountered people who don't read instructions and don't read a whole message? I have a club/group on DeviantArt and there are instructions on how to join. One of the instructions is read the rules. Unfortunately, many of those who joined actually did not read the rules and have been violating rules even after membership. Because of this, I rearranged the layout of the first page to emphasize the "How to Join" and "Rules" part by placing it on top almost below the join button and written in capital letters. Even after the layout modification, there are still those who join who do no read the rules. I now make sure they read the rules before joining by including a keyword from the rules that they will use when they join. As for discussions here on myLot, there are times when there seem to be people who give responses but their responses are unrelated to the topic since they did not read the whole question. Are you annoyed at people who don't read? Have you done this once or twice (I'm pretty sure I did)? Are you frequently like this? Or is it because you have no time and would like to do as much responding as you can here in myLot? What's your take on this? Have a great day and happy myLotting!

Sad to say this is a fact of life. Many people do not like to read any more than they absolutely have to. Even if they have to read something, they will avoid it whenever possible. I think I pretty much know how this is. People tend to have short attention spans at best and are lazy at absolute worst. It somehow goes back and forth between those two things. I always try to read the necessary documentation. Sadly, though, there are times when my mind does wander and I do not read everything. There is just a lot of stuff in many areas. No matter how much I try, there is just some stuff I skim a bit more than I would like to. I really should try and read stuff a bit better. Often times I do but at the same time, there are lapses. Not as much as other people but they are still there.

Hi megamatt! Thanks for your response and sharing another opinion on the topic. Yes, laziness or short attention spans are contributing factors too. Maybe the modern fast-paced way of life has caused much more convenient lives and short cuts that attention span has been naturally reduced.

Yes, I do encounter such people in my daily life. For example, a colleague of mine just acquired a new piece of electronic gadget. Without even reading the user manual, he started bombarding me with questions about how to do this and how to do that. When I asked him why didn't he refer to the 100-page manual, the excuse he gave was it was too thick and he couldn't wait to use the gadget right away. Of course I was annoyed upon hearing this. There are more examples which I will not include in this response, because that will make this response too lengthy. For me, whenever I buy an electronic gadget, I will first read the user manual to get a rough idea of how to operate it. I guess there are people out there who are simply too lazy and impatient to familiarize themselves with all the rules, or the operating instructions before delving into something.

Ooh, that one sure is annoying. Even though he's too excited for the gadget, he wasted a lot time trying to ask people while everything was just on the manual beside him. I think being excited is understandable but the fact that he has the manual and could just search what he needs to know in it (and not even read the whole thing) is so annoying. You sure are right. Not that others are impatient, they are lazy too. Kudos for you for not being like them and actually take time to read. I feel that people are wasting and taking for granted that they can read while there are poor people who just wish they could enter school and learn to read. Cheers!

Hello EnslinPorter, When in comes to joining forums, a regular forum, which do not pay its user, I would just browse the rules. I honestly, don't read it word by word because rules of forum are almost the same. I would just browse the rules if there are some rules that I don't know. But basic rules like no all caps in posting, no bashing, or some thing like that it is very common and I know that already. Yeah, I encountered some people who won't read the whole discussion, I am thinking that they are just reading the title and a line in the discussion and they hit the respond button immediately. and their reply are non sense at all. I don't really get annoyed with this people I just ignore them. I don't stress myself because I won't gain anything from them. Take care and have fun posting. red_amethyst
