People say that the books ares far better than the movie. I agree. After reading the first book, the first movie just came out and I stayed up to watch the midnight showing on opening night. I thought it would totally be worth it, but I was kind of disappointed. I love Harry Potter don't get me wrong, but the movie seemed to skip out on so much that made the books so good. Then the second, third, fourth, and fifth came out and every time I felt like the movies were lacking something. Finally the sixth came out recently, and although that one also didn't include a lot, I finally found it pretty entertaining. Maybe it was because they were focusing on Ron and Hermione's relationship, but that was the first Harry Potter movie I enjoyed watching and didn't feel like I was wasting money on. Overall I think the first books were amazing, but the movies weren't very good. Any opinions???

Even though I did like the movies, the books were much better. I think one of the main problems with the movies is that they had to leave so much out or they would be 5 hours long.

yeah. I was disappointed that the movie left so much out, but at the same time I know that I have to be practical about how much the movie can actually put in. Thanks for responding! :D

I loved the movies, but they were not nearly as good as the books. It would be next to impossible to make a movie long enough to cover all the important details of each book and still make it affordable for movie goers to attend.

The original thing is always the best thing! =D I prefer the books.. I didn't hate the first and second movies but.. Then slowly.. they started getting badder.. no offence meant!.. So yeah, they skipped it alot.. tweaked it too a little.. I like the books.. the only difference is books are longer and have more detail of stuff

I agree with you.. The movies were definitely getting worse and worse. There were stuff in the books that I wished were in the movies which was a bit disappointing. That's probably why I liked the books better. Thanks for responding! :D

Well..at first I think to read novels is a waste of time..better watching movies instead.. But after I read visual novel (it's basically a novel in PC with some graphics), I changed my mind. The books give details a lot more than a movie can give.

The series is great; each book is connected, well developed, and captivating. I love how it's truly any everyone type of book- if there's a certain intended audience, this series is enjoyable for any type really- girl, boy, teen, kid, adult, family, parent, old manager at mc.donalds. I think the first movie was pretty good, stuck well to the book. Affter the first though, it was downhill. Actors were actually getting worse- Daniel Radcliffe just became increasingly awful, I would say it's his idea of portraying his character if I hadn't seen other movies he's acted in. Also, the later books had sooo much detail the movies didn't make time to include, which is truly a disappointment. If you compare how much is missing and what the movies angled their focus on most of the time, it's obvious the movies could have been substantially better. --did you know finding nemo is one of the few that had the book based on the movie and not a movie created from a book? lol :)

The books are far FAR better than the movies. Dont get me wrong, I love the movies and I think they're well done, but its just not the same. The imagination, creativity and more information in the novels that make it so much better. I thought the movies lost their essence for a while in th middle - around 3-5 and are not getting their finnesse back.

I totally agree with you! 3-5 were definitely not as good as they could have been. I really hope the last two movies can be really awesome! Thanks for responding!

All harry potter films fall short of expectation, given how the version in books were crafted. I just hope the last 2 will make up for the lost beauty of film adaptations.

I wish they could. But after the last few, I'm not sure how well they can do. They won't be able to accomplish as much as they could have, because they cut out alot of the subplots in the last few movies.

I've read all the books and watched all the movies. You have to admit that the books are extremely long in terms of length, and they just can't squeeze everything into a 3 hour movie. The directors and producers just take the parts they and think will interest the audience and make a movie out of them. If your the kind of person who enjoys reading books, then you will definitely find the book to be better than the movie. My friend who finds reading such big books as a chore, found the book uninteresting.

Yeah I agree with you. It's just being such a Harry Potter fan, there were thing from the books that I was really looking foward to seeing in the movie. I guess that was what was the most disappointing for me.

I agree, I prefer the books rather than the movies. They do skip a lot of things, vital parts, in the book. But since when The Order of the Phoenix came out, the director sort of did well in doing the book some justice. The sixth movie was okay for me too so I am looking forward to the last 2 installments of the film franchise.

Oh of course the books are so much better than the films as is usually the case - I don't think that I've ever seen a film I thought was better than a book. With a book the reader makes his/her own thoughts on characters, places etc and the films never match it. There is so much more pleasure to be gained from reading these books than watching the films

I agree with you! Although harry potter movies are made good and many efforts are put into it to include most of the things from the books, they don't meet the expectations of the people who have read the books before. The reason for it is, movies do have limitations. Just remember, no movie can match a book. Books and movies are totally different things and are meant to be enjoyed differently.

I don't like the inaccuracies of the movies, however, I think they are fairly well made representations of the books. My favorite so far of the movies has been the seventh part one, as it has been the most accurate I have seen that I can compare to the books. It rectified the problems of the sixth movie. Overall in my opinion though, the books are definitely better. I just hope the second part lives up to the first part, which I believe it will.

I am a Harry Potter Geek! I love everything about it. I must agree the books are better only because they explain alot. In the movie they left alot of things out. In this last movie it was Tonk who found Harry on the Train after his incident with Malfoy. In the movie they had Luna find him. Some of it was off. It gets confusing to me. Imagine how kids must feel when they think they're reading and comprehending and then they see the movie and are like what? I love watching the movies still. I have read the series twice cover to cover just to keep it fresh in my mind. I wish it didnt have to end. I dont think It will be the same with a 30 year old wizard at Hogwarts. It was a good run. dl

tifychau, I loved the books, but I have to agree the movies really didn't do the books justice. I don't know if because Rowlings gave away her movie rights on it or what. I've run into so many books where the movies just didn't do it for me the way the books did. It might because of budget constraints. I watched the 1st movie to the HP series and I just knew that there was no way I was going to watch anymore.

I do agree with you, i only read one book but watch all the movies, at first, the movies can attract me, and i eager for the next one, but to the 4th, i find it is not as interesting as before. Though i read one book, i know the book is more abundance than the movie, anyway, how can a 2.5 hours movie contains a thick book?LOL~ I like Harry Potter series, i will read the book one by one.

It depends on the book. In the case of 4, Goblet of Fire, I'd have to say hands down the book was better then the movie. The movie was lacking structure in my opinion. It was like they tried to put all the parts in from the book, without actually trying to make it flow together. The rest of the movies are just as good as the books in my opinion. They stand on their own and bring a new perspective to the much loved books.

As the movie is only a shortened version of the story narrated in the book, we could not expect to see all the actions and scenes contained in the book. Time constraint is one of the reasons why only major events are being captured on screen. Hence, once you have read the book first you'll find the movie version wanting when the story is presented on screen. I find the Harry Potter book versions better than its movie presentations too.

Yup, you are right! As a reader, every time I watch Harry Potter I feel disappointed because they sometimes change the story the characters and the things described in the books. The good Harry Potter movies for me are 1,2,4,and 6.
