If so, why?

No
Because eventually mankind will stop fighting over who's imaginary god kills people deader than everyone else's imaginary god, and figure out the problem of space/time travel. When that happens we'll be the only hope for the survival of earth's ecology in spite of cosmic hazards such as asteroids, expanding suns , gamma ray bursts etc.
