My DVR Is Giving Me FITS!!

I've been going crazy the past few days. Since I've had my DVR I've wondered how I ever got along without it and now I'm being reminded - and I'm NOT happy! It started back in December when my TV, DVR and everything would just shut off out of the blue. First the screen would go black, then after a few seconds it would make a loud noise and shut off completely; after a few more seconds it would come back on by itself but everything had to reset itself which meant my channel guide read "To Be Announced" for every time and channel for awhile and it would take several hours for the guide to completely reset. It would also interrupt anything that may have been recording when it went off but it would resume recording when it came back on. Most of the time it wasn't too bad because I'd only lose a minute or two but then it started doing it sometimes five or six times right in a row. I finally called the cable company and a few days later they came and replaced the DVR, which meant I lost all the recordings I had, which was about 40 or more movies, some of which haven't been on again. The DID give me a credit on my next bill, which was nice but that doesn't get my movies back. That was probably around three weeks or so ago. The new DVR worked fine for maybe a week and a half, then it started "freezing" all the time. Sometimes it would start back up by itself but other times it wouldn't and I couldn't change the channel or anything else, it was just STUCK. I'm not sure how often I called about that and each time I was told to unplug the DVR, wait about two minutes, and plug it back in. That was fine except it all had to reset itself again and if anything was recording it would be interrupted. At first it only happened once in awhile but then it started to do it more often. THEN things started to get really goofy... On Monday night I was TRYING to watch "House" and it would get to a certain point in the recording and freeze. A few times I unplugged it and a few other times it eventually started back up but it couldn't get past the 33 minute mark. It then started to go from that spot to the end of the recording, then it would start to rewind but only go so far before it would go to the beginning. As it turned out I missed the middle of the show and could only watch the beginning and the end. The next night it froze against for the fiftieth time or so but this time when I unplugged it and plugged it back in and could finally access my DVR recordings I was shocked - and VERY pi$$ed off - too see everything had disappeared, I had 0%. All of my future recordings were gone and all of the series recordings I had set up. GRRR!!! I saw RED!! Now it's thing is to suddenly no respond to my remote without me unplugging it and the time on the DVR stays like an hour or two behind. I went to rewind a show I was watching the other night when a show from six hours earlier in the afternoon appeared! They're coming to the house on Tuesday to see what the problem is but meanwhile I'm losing my mind and I feel like someone is MESSING with my mind! Has anyone else ever had anything similar to this happen? Annie

What company do you get your service through? We had our DVR for about 2 years when it started acting funny. Then we came home from work one day and said it had an error and had to be wiped clean...we were furious, as we had a good 50 hours of stuff on there we had wanted to keep. We had to send for a replacement unit, and thankfully now it seems to be working just fine.

It's through our local cable company, MetroCast Communications. I've had mine for close to two years I guess and I never had a problem until a few months ago. I sure know what you mean about being furious! I had mine replaced a few weeks ago and lost all my saved recordings and then I had a bunch more recorded and it wiped itself clean the other night. I've been trying to catch up on some of the classic films I'd missed through the years plus there are some I've seen but wanted to see again and they're not on very often at all, and I lost several I'd been waiting for forever.
