Anyone who wants to learn more about autism needs to check out Temple Grandin and her work. She is amazing. She's high functioning and is able to give parents, caregivers, and even autistic people an insight to autism. You may want to look at this video http://www.ted.com/talks/temple_grandin_the_world_needs_all_kinds_of_minds.html I found it interesting. I think it is a great way to look at autism.

What an interesting name for a person! I thought you were talking about a place! The names sounds familiar but maybe you have mentioned it to me before.

I think I have told you about the book I am reading about her. We also discussed the fact that she had a vested interest unlike the doctors and maybe that was why I was able to get more information out of her work than any of the doctors.

I found it very interesting to watch the video. I had heard about Temple Grandin before, because I have read a book by her, but on the video she mentioned several things that I didn't know, so I learned something new. I would like to watch the video again one day. The book that I read was called "Emergency labeled autistic" and in that book Temple Grandin tells her own story. I found the book by a co-incidence, I had never heard about her before, but I am glad I bought it, because I learned a lot from that book.

I cannot wait to read more of her stuff and to see some of her videos. I found out today she is on some kind of list for Time magazine's people of the year. I haven't verified that yet, but there was some type of voting thing being sent around about it. Anyway, I hope she makes the list and I wish all doctors would just say, if you want to find information on autism and what your child is going through read her. It would have made my journey go quicker.

Yes! I became aware of her when I was reading about her in Parade magazine months ago. HBO did a TV movie based on her life, which Claire Danes starred in. But you know that. Anyway, once I read that, I came across reviews of the movie and articles about Temple herself in People magazine. I don't have HBO, but I would love to rent the movie when it eventually is released on DVD. She is incredibly amazing.

I just found out about her and I wished I had came across her a couple years ago. She has given me more information than the doctors have. My son is autistic and I have been looking for a way to help him. I came across her when questioning one of the librarians. Hopefully the information I am getting from her will help me with my son.

I watched the movie on HBO and I loved it so much. I have a love and compassion for autistic and special people in general, but I also have a love and compassion for animals. I think she is just so remarkable and is such a huge role model when it comes to autism because she shows that its not always a hindrance, it can be a thing that yes it sets you aside from the norm, but in a good way because you are above and beyond the "norm". I also love how she is able to speak her mind, I think so many high functioning autistics are shy and insecure because of the society stigma about it. I say it again that she is a role model for autism and hopefully this will give other autistics the strength to stand up themselves and be proud of themselves as well.

Totally agree. She has been such an inspiration to me! I have been looking for information on autism for over two years and finding her books was such a blessing. My son is autistic and I am trying to learn how to help him. I watched the video trying to see how they thought. She is an inspirational speaker and it is so much more information from her than the doctors. I know not all autistic people are the same, but she certainly gives me hope.
