So my kid needed some retail therapy today so we went to a local shopping center. I noticed a new store front. A Census Form help center. A place to go filling out your name and date of birth. Ours came in Spanish too. How can you not write your name and date of birth? Thankfully the office was empty, I had to check. Does your town have a handy office like this?

I don't go out shopping much at all, so I've not seen anything like this but it wouldn't surprise me. I hate to admit but I got to laughing when I read about it. However, I know several people personally that can't read or write so would need this service. Marsha

But can they write their own name? How about a neighbor to help?

that is a legitimate point. But I have to ask, are they on any type of government assistance? Could their case manager help? or a neighbor? also, the census bureau will be going to homes soon. I just think it is another big waste of tax payers money.

yes and no.... I don't know about the husband at all, never seen him write. the wife will sign cards from them...well, not sign, but print, but she makes letters backwards and out of order in their names. It's a sad situation really.

First of all, you say you had to go for some retail therapy? I can't do that as much. Then about the census, they just started putting those in the mail last week so everyone can get them this past Monday. I am supposed to be working for them soon but they haven't called yet. hopefully soon. And the place is for those who probably aren't literate enough to do it for themselves I suppose

I will try to get the phone number, maybe you could call and they will do a house call? I am sure they have a nice travel expense account.

Maybe it's a just a way to put some more people to work. I have to force myself to believe that instead of believing that there are people too stupid to fill out that form. Of course, there are those who are really, really lazy....

I'm not aware that we have a Census Form Help Center. What a waste. The census guy came to my house and hand-delivered my form. I live 30 minutes out of town. Why not just mail it to me? So as long as he was here, I should have asked him for help filling out the form.

I thought that all legitimate Americans already had a number from birth (which also told the Powers that Be what your name is, when you were born, where you were last known to live and exactly how much you have earned in your life as well as how much you had contributed to the Social Good, when you were last at a PETA (or other anti-social) gathering and even, perhaps, where you shop and what sites you visit on the Internet.

Oh my goodnes. YOu are kidding right? Our tax dollars hard at work huh? More waste. Maybe it could be for handicap people. I dont think the Census comes in brail for the blind...so maybe they have to set them up for people who need help filling out the Census because of handicap issues.
