Wal-mart will slash grocery prices and mount a new ad campaign over the next 6 weeks. http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE62I39320100319 Great news for a lot of us who shop there, but they make it hard for the "little stores". We still go to United once in awhile too. Sometimes you just don't want to walk that far just to buy groceries. Pretty soon Wal-mart will be the only store left for us to shop in.

Oh, that sounds really neat! Our Kmart here just closed down, so the only store we really have around here is Walmart, unfortunately. So lower prices will most definitely be awesome because some of the things there are a little two expensive for me. :)

I hope they don't put all our area stores out of business. Their fresh fruits are limited and they don't last very long in the fridge.

That's exactly why I never shop at Wal-Mart. I don't like that they monopolize the industry and force other, smaller stores to close. I also don't approve of many of their policies and practices- for example, the stores in my local area decided a couple years ago that they would cut all of their employees to part-time hours so that they wouldn't have to give any of them full-time benefits. For groceries, I shop at two local supermarkets, one has great prices on produce, and the other has good prices on everything else. Both of them are cheaper than Wal-Mart about 95% of the time. Even if Wal-Mart lowers its grocery prices, I will not go there because the quality of their produce is atrocious. I do not want tomatoes that look and taste like they're made of wax.

I hope so, I have absolutely no money as it is and any break in my wallet will help a ton! I know it's a big business or whatever, but families have to do what's necessary to survive.

That is good news that the prices will be lower, but it is bad for the smaller stores and chains.

Well that is good news. I love going to Walmart over the small stores though because you can do one stop shopping and get everything you want under one roof. The neighborhood store does not carry everything. One thing I hate doing is shopping from one store to another. It waste gas and time. I rather go to one store and know once I leave there I can go directly home with everything that I needed.

I hope this is really true..since I have seen such hikes in Walmart prices in the past that I had decided to look for a more affordable way to shop. I mean I saw things jump at least a dollar more in prices.

Our town has found that out. We have Krogers, Save-a-lot and Walmart. We have 2 dollar stores and that is pretty much it, except for a few little tiny local stores. That is Walmarts goal. Things at our Walmart cost more than going to bigger towns stores, and there is a tiny selection to choose from.

They just started opening those Wal Mart superstores in our area and I visited one to get groceries. Most of the things I wanted to buy actually cost more than my local, family-owned grocery store, so I decided to pass on a lot of stuff. They were better priced with common, packaged foods such as Truvia, cereal, and peanut butter, but not with fruits and vegetables.

I have about five places I shop, including Wal Mart and Sam's Club. I will continue to be diverse, but I will also be thankful for any price breaks I get. I do not like the temptation of buying all kinds of other things when I am shopping for groceries, but I have learned that I do better if I take someone with me, so I do not impose on their time when I shop. Is there a reason Wal Mart is doing this?

This is good news to me. I shop at Walmart all the time because it's the cheapest place to get what I want, when I want it. Also, they literally have everything. If I can't find it anywhere else, Walmart has it. That's why I'm pretty loyal to Walmart. So I'll definitely be hitting up their stores more often when the change takes place. I need to load up on lots of groceries anyway.

That will be great, we also have a family owned store here just up the street. Wal Mart is about 2 miles away, but the stuff in the family owned store is so expensive. I can get the same tub of butter in Wal Mart for $1.99 that the local store wants $4.00 for, I am on disability and can't afford 2 bucks more for the same thing, they want you to shop local but make the prices so out of reach.

walmart has killed a lot of stores near to me,it's an island,so they have a potential to blockbust..but the walmart is central,so that's saving a few smaller stores here because people don't want to go that far just for milk. on the other hand, some of the stores here knowing that are driving up their prices to take advantage, and will soon drive themselves out of business when people decide the walk IS worth it.

I don't know if that's locally or nationally. If its nationally that'll help when it comes to shopping. Of course most of what we get at wal-mart is usually cheeper elseware. Oh well. No big deal though.

hi estherlou I love shopping at Walmart because I do get so much lower prices and also good quality stuff and all under one roof so you need 'not go all over to find what you need. the only thing that really bothers me is that some clerks there are not very helpful, and I know they are not paid as much as clerks at other stores. shame on Wal mart fo not paying better wages to their employees, they are surely making enough profits that they could pay their employees what they really should pay. This is too bad as otherwise its a great store to shop in.
