Were YOU part of flooding Washington this week re: Obama-Care?

United States

For a few days this week, the phone lines in Washington DC were overloaded. Many gave credit to Rush Limbaugh listeners to opose and to a speech that President Obama gave encouraging suporters to call. I have seen several emails coming and going encouraging Americans to call and give their opinion. It seemed it worked in creating a telephone nightmare for the Hill! I'm just wondering if any of my MyLot friends were part of this historical move of the people! And if you WERE, did you get to talk to a live person, get a busy signal or no answer? Kudos to anyone that voiced their opinion! I am very curious how this is all going to play out tomorrow about this time....

Busy signal. Busy signal. Busy signal. Voice Mail Full. Voice Mail Full. Busy signal. Busy signal. Voice Mail Full. You get the idea. In the meantime, shot off a couple of emails. No response back on those. I really hope it doesn't pass.

I heard there were a lot of busy signals and eventually they stopped answering altogether. I heard Rush gave out a different phone number when they stopped answering. Too bad we can't get ahold of all the Senator's CELL phone numbers!!

Yeah, I tried that third number too. Paraphrasing Rush, the circuits in Washington are melting. LOL

I wished I had known this was going on. I certainly would have liked to voice my opinion on the new health bill about to go through. It really scares me and i hope it doesn't go through but am just afraid it will. I bet this calling thing was a nightmare for the Hill.

You can also reach your Representative via email. http://www.house.gov/ Just input your zip code and it will find the Representative in your voting district.

Good information. Contact them even AFTER the 'vote'. And I believe Prayer is a good thing at this time too!

I have been mostly away from both phone and computer this last two weeks. I do not think this bill should pass without being read first, and I also do not like the idea of deeming it past. Feels like a cheat.

Well, it is a cheat. Whether you're for or against it, this is important enough to pass correctly. That way it was done fairly and neither side can blame the other.

and I also agree that everyone shoudl read it first.... unless they don't need to because there won't be a chance to vote on it anyway. I've heard there are at least FORTY Dems that are unsure how to vote. Nancy and the President both said, "you'll know what's in it when we pass it" .. hm... why can't we know BEFORE??

They don't want us to know what is in it before? You have got to be kidding me! This is something so serious! Wow, it truly all that I can say. I wish I had received that call because I would of spent all that time on the phone calling.

I did not participate but I do think this is great! I love that so many people are starting to pay attention to what Washington is doing! There just may be more participation this year than last year!

I sent emails to all of my local politicians. And, beleive it or not, I did get a couple of emails back. Of course, they were just the answer in a can type emails. Nothing personal, and I did use a web site to send my email, which is where I was encouraged to voice my opinion. I also signed a petition. And the emails that I sent, I did personalize by editing their version. One of the main thing that I added to these emails was the fact that I would like to see them concentrate on lowering health care costs rather than adding taxes to the people and cutting Medicare dollars. Plus, a friend was just charged $365 to have his blood pressure taken, so I wanted to specifically mention that situation. I know it doesn't cost that much to take his blood pressure, because I have done it for him in his home.....for free! I just wished they would drop the health care bill and move on to try to cut spending. I don't think they would be able to cut health care costs for the people, although that would be really nice if they could. Our politicians in office today just worry too much about lobbyist and what they want. I should know, I have sat and listened to a lobbyist make phone calls to the different politicians and deal with them to get them in his corner. I can't say it's not interesting, but it's still not right!

I agree. As real people I'm sure we can come up with real LEGIT ideas to make this easier for everyone. You know, I heard a quote tonight, something like: Why is it my employer's responsibility to pay for my healthcare and not my electricity, food, and water. Made me think... why DON'T our employers pay for our auto insurance? our gas/electric bills? Because it's OUR responsibility to take care of ourselves!! SOme employer somewhere probably was being nice and included healthcare, then others heard this and now we all EXPECT benefits...as if having the job itself wasn't enough of a benefit. ... really makes one think.. I know we could come up with better health/medical advice than what Washington is coming up with.

I have been sick to my stomach about this all day. I did send some letters off via snail mail and also via email, but I hate the fact that I know what the American people did didn't make the difference that it should have made. Granted, the vote was very close, but it still passed and in the long run that is going to be a huge detriment to the American people. Right now I am trying to figure out where the best place for me to defect to.

I am not as curious as I am scared that we are going to be strapped with the new strangling legislation.

The lines were busy so I didn't get through. I sent a few emails, though, although I'm sure that they delete nearly all of them without looking at them. It occurred to me this morning how important words are. By calling this "health care reform" instead of what it is--government takeover of insurance--they have succeeded in dividing the people and making one group think that the other wants to deny health care to sick people or give it away using the tax dollars that we pay. People for it think that the people against it are heartless and cruel while the people against it can't get their point through because of the emotional frenzy. What a good job they have done of fooling and dividing everyone.

Nope, I didn't even try because I knew what was happening to those phone lines. Besides, I've already communicated several times with my elected representatives about this issue so they know where their constituents stand.

I called my Congressman in Washington. I talked to a staffer and told him I was opposed to the health-care reform bill. He took my name and the city I was from. P.S., I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh. I did this because it's all I felt like I could do.
