How long have you had your "oldest" friend or pal?

My "oldest" friend is from when I was age 4 (I'm now 46). That's 42 years of BFF's! Most of my friends are that "old", stemming from my early school days. I have newer friends and love them but I take great pride in being able to say the majority of my "friends" have been friends for well over 10+ years... most even over 35 years! How long have you known your friends?

Wow hockey :) You're so lucky and blessed to have those friends! I think it's rare nowadays to have friends who last longer 'till your late years co'z it's really hard to trust someone. Plus, things changes around us and it's hard to cope with the friendship considering some other factors like priorities at work and family. Unlike you, I only have few close friends but a lot of acquaintances. The longest friend I have is 10 years but my very close friend as of now is already my friend for 5 years. I'm not really sure if we can keep the friendship for longer years because nowadays things are different than when we were in school. We live two hours away from each other so that's another factor affecting our communication. We only communicate through text messages and it's rare that we meet co'z we still have to consider our schedule. Hmmm.. anyway, just wanna ask.. what's your secret for having long friends?? would love to have more close friends too..

Maybe I've just been very lucky or a very good judge of character? I have had many "not long term" friendships too but I can honestly say that I have well over 10 friends (probably more if I'd count) friends that I've had since my childhood. Don't get me wrong, we've had our issues, our difference, even our times when we just don't see each other much because life takes us in different directions but honestly, I've had others ask me "How do you EVER have friends for so long?" I'm not sure I know the answer.. lol.. other than being honest, true and learning how to forgive and forget perhaps? AND one of my biggest rules, never say anything about someone else that you wouldn't say to their face. No matter what the circumstance.

hockeygal4ever My oldest friend has been my best friend for twenty five years or so.We met when she and her son moved into our apartmentcomplex way back there. Our two sons were already friends and both were computer nerds so to speak, they called them selves that. Nelda and I found out we were both diabetics and also we were both born in November. We have enjoyed each other for so long, and she has been my savior here at this tiresome retirement center. she emails me each working day and I return the favor. she helps me get to the bank when need be, and we just love to talk to each other, we enjoy each other's company so much. she is just a jewel to have as a best friend.

I just re-connected with an old neighbour of mine, on Facebook. I grew up with the girl. I was born in 1982, and she was born in 1981, so that would have to be 28-29 years. LOL

About thirty years. I met her in college and we just hit it off - as friends. We haven't seen each other for awhile, but we keep in touch by e-mail and occasionally by phone. In 2006 we went to see Bob Seger, which we always did back in the eightys. I do have a girlfriend who we bought a house with. And she said she is one of those people that does not believe males and females can be just friends but me and her are a rare exception.
