Is your keyboard as dirty as a toilet seat???

Yes, it is not a pun but a head to head comparison between a keyboard and a toilet seat. Well, BBC said that the consumer group Which? said tests at its London offices found equipment carrying bugs that could cause food poisoning. Well, I am not joking - see this : www.news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7377002.stm What do you think??

well, I hope that mine is clean at least cleaner than a toilet seat, because I wipe it every three days with a special towels and some spray so that's why I hope it is really clean :) or at least hygienic enough

Oh - that is good of you - if your keyboard had a voice, I imagine what it would have said! [

I had the same problem with the link, but it was not difficult to discover the correct URL. This website does not use www as a prefix, so the link should read http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7377002.stm

It is not easy to keep a keyboard in a hygeinic state due to the surface area being far from smooth. I always keep the keyboard clean, but to extract all the debris from between the keys etcetera is a tedious job and not something that I would engage in on a regular basis. To reach such a state as to be a health hazard would necessitate such things as eating over the keyboard and allowing the crumbs to simply degrade and rot. There are many offices where the keyboard and other equipment are not even superficially cleaned because people have little respect for company property, whereas the same people probably look after their own system at home. If a keyboard starts to become difficult to keep clean then it should be simply discarded, which is easy with the low cost involved.

Yeah, discarding a keyboard is better than cleaning through the gaps between keys!

I believe keyboards are one of the dirtiests things in the house, office, or wherever there is a keyboard. It is always used and touched by human hands. Because we humans use our hands for a lot of tasks, we carry many microorganisms and we could unknowingly bring that to the the keyboard. What I do is that I always wash my hands after using the computer before doing and touching anything else in the house. As for public computers, some people pick their noses and use the bathroom but don't wash their hands. So yeah, pretty much, the news is fact.

When I was working, I would definitely have believed that my keyboard was as dirty (or dirtier) than a toilet seat. However, now that I don't work and I have my very own computer, I wouldn't think that it would be that dirty. The reason that I feel this way is that at home I have my own dedicated computer. No one else in the house is allowed on my computer, so the only germs that are on my computer are those that come from my own fingers and also those that are airborn within my own home.

sometimes i turn my keyboard upside down and shake it. It scares me how much junk find its way in their, mostly from dust or from me eating while working. I still wouldn't be concerned, I mean just because there are bugs there doesn't mean that I'll be eating them. That would be pretty difficult to do I would think. Still, the thought grosses me out.

My partner works in a call centre where everyone seems to use all the keyboards, no one hsa a specific desk, so the keyboards are often filthy dirty. He takes a small pack of wipes with him to work, and cleans the keyboard before he starts work, purely because he is aware of how dirty they are. I clean my keyboard at least once a week, it's amazing just how much mess gets in there.

If you take a look at any keyboard, you will notice that they get very dirty. No one I know washes their hands before using a keyboard. I try to clean off my keyboards at least as often as I clean the screen. When I worked in an office where I had to share a keyboard, I always cleaned it before I used it. I also cleaned the top of the desk and the telephone that was shared. I think shared telephones are as contaminated. I also clean my personal phone frequently. I believe that phones are also very contaminated with a lot of germs & foreign stuff. Getting back to keyboards, just think about where your hands have been. The scientists say that when you flush a toilet the contents (in microparticals) spray throughout the room for approximately 6 feet. I used to get really annoyed at the women I worked with who would use a paper towel to open the restroom doors. But I am beginning to understand why they did so. Clean your keyboard frequently & don't forget to wash your hands before eaating.

I never thought about it, but maybe it´s the time to start spraying some Lysol on it on a daily basis. I do hope mine is not as dirty as an office keyboard (I wash my hands before using the computer and noone else uses it). Anyway, I seems we human beings are a lot dirtier than we think we are. I´ll go clean! Bye!

Well, I think it is kind of hard for a keyboard to be completely as dirty as a toilet seat. I mean, consider the type of things that a toilet seat would go through. A keyboard does not go through nearly as much. Trust me, I actually went to look at the toilet seat, that has not been cleaned yet today, and my keyboard, and there was a staggering difference. While I am sure there are some germs picked up on the keyboard, its nowhere near what is lurking around the toilet seat. Still, the keyboard can get rather dirty. It is tricky to clean of course but it can be done. Still, things tend to get stuck in between the keys. Then the real adventure begins. Digging that stuff out can be frustrating but you have to, otherwise the keys stick and it is a pain to type. Still nowhere nearly as dirty as the toilet seat.

The link cannot be opened, but my keyboard is not as dirty as a toilet seat and I'm sure of that. However it is a bit dirty because I eat sometimes in front of the computer and mess the whole space, but I clean after that. Some of the buttons are a little filthy sometimes but i tend to keep it clean recently because it is repulsive to others. When I have guest and they look at the keyboard I just get embarrassed :) Have a Nice MyLotting :)
