Health care bill passed in America?

United States

So it has passed. What are your thoughts on the matter? I am upset about this. I believe that everyone needs health care but not to come from one like this. It is truly scary. I am happy though that Obama made it to where abortions would not be covered by federal funds unless it was by rape, incest, or the woman's life is in danger. I hope I am proved wrong but my gut is telling me that I should be scared.

Be afraid...be very afraid pageantgirl. I will adress the executive order first. It is useless. Executive orders can not only be repealed by a president, they can be repealed by an act of congress of even a lawsuit. It was just a prop. Stupac was rolled way to easy to my way of thinking. Now, a little hope for you. I don't know what state you live in. but 34 of them have legislation on the works or passed that nullifies this bill in those states. A couple even made it a felony for federal agents to enforce this bill in those states. Look to see if your state has such a bill in the works. If you don't start hounding legislators to do so. If you do thiugh, call your state legislators and tell them to support it, call your governor and tel him to sign it. this is the way we must take back this country, through the power of our states. We may have lost this battle (for now) but the war is only beginning, so take heart.

I just read the article on this today. Unfortunately, they didn't say anything about California but I can only hope. I will be writing my representatives about this though.

I am hearing about this over the radio but since I am not an American I really do not understand what is fearful about the new bill about health care. I lived in a third world country and comparing your healthcare program is far from the one we have in here. In here healthcare is really costly and the government can only support a certain amount in case you got sick and if you are not working then it is even worse because not a single cent will be provided to you unless you can prove to yourself you are an indigent.

What is scary is that anyone without insurance will be forced to sign up for this or they will have to pay a fine. They will now have the choice on what you can and can not be treated for. They will have direct access to our bank account. Our doctors will be paid the same salary no matter what their specialty is and the government will decide what their pay is. Those are just a few things that scare me.

Oh okay I guess your government is really doing some tightening their belt measures. I think I am just concerned about trying to look onto our bank accounts that is I guess not acceptable already because I think bank is something private already and they are very invasive already.

Pageantgirl, I'd be scared to if I believed all the healthcare reform scare tactics the way you seem to. You will have just as much choice in what you will or will not be treated for under healthcare reform as you now do. all the reform bill does is expand the coverage of private carriers. There has ALWAYS been rationing to some degree. Right now how much coverage you get depends upon the coverage in your benefit package . Everyone who can afford healthcoverage MUST now enroll and pay. At the present time, those of us who pay premiums are being charged for the nonindigent without coverage. Right now that ranges from $300+ - $900+ per year being paid out of healthcare premiums. That will change when those people have to pay out of their own pockets. Those trully unable to afford health coverage will remain eligible for medicaid. doctors will receive the same salary no matter what their specialty - That one is just ridiculous. Do you REALLY believe a 500 thousand dollar a year neurosurgeon in a state of the art teaching hospital is going to be paid the same amount as a GP in a small town? Show me where in healthcare reform you got that one. The truth is that doctors will be paid the same amount for the same service rendered. eg: A resident in either a teaching hospital or a general city hospital who stitches a cut will be paid the same for that service. Since GP's don't usually operate on people's brains, there is no conflict about payment there. What bothers me about this thread is that you have passed scare tactics and false information to a person from another country. I really think you should sit down and plod through some of the healthcare reform bill before you explain it to someone else. I admit that I haven't gotten through it all yet but at least I've made some effort and it doesn't look to me as though you've done much more than fallen lock stock & barrel for the politics of fear.

I, too, was surprised that the bill made actually made provisions for general abortion! Abortion is a very personal matter and should be at the sole expense of the individuals involved. I am glad to know that the president took the time to stress just which abortions ought to be covered. Though pro-life, I strongly believe that a woman should never reward a rapist with an offspring!

I agree. I am also pro-life but understand in certain cases such as rape, incest or for her safety. However, even though we are already paying for abortions, I personally don't think we should be. Pro-choice says that it is a woman's body so it is her choice, well, I personally believe that if it is her choice, she should pay for it herself. That may be a little rude but I am not asking them to pay for my kids because I choose to keep them. I have no problem paying for one due to rape.

I am not an American. I belong to India. I heard that the American health bill is passed and it is one of the big news in my local newspaper. I read more about the bill and found that it is an advantage to Americans. More people, especially sick people will be able to get insurance with this bill. Before, insurance companies didn't want sick people to be in their list. Also, the bill has a very clear stand about abortion. It will not support abortion and I hope the bill will discourage abortion. There is free medical care in my country. There are hospitals run by government, where you can go and get free medical care. America doesn't have free medical care. So, this bill is necesary to take care the health of poor and sick Americans.
