Is pirates are really good?

Ok, we have seen the movies, where we only see pirates especially jack sparrow as a hero, but do/did they are really good or just unlike in the movies, they are cruel/hateful?

Jack Sparrow isn't really considered good....
Anyways, are we talking about real pirates or movie pirates?
Because I don't know if you heard about the problems with pirates in the middle east? Well, normally they are not good. They are known for rioting, stealing, murder, etc. Although, these days, we don't have as much of a problem with pirates so it's hard to say as we can only base our knowledge of them from stories :)

Hi justsmile, I heard about that..well that was the incident that made me thinking about pirates, if they were really good. Anyway the movie is awesome, after all, I wished to be a pirate after seeing jack sparrow LOL

I definitely think of plenty of other movies when I think about Johnny Depp :)
specifically Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd, Finding Neverland, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Edward Scissorhands (loveeeeeee this movie!), and Alice in Wonderland (the new one)
soo yeah if you don't think about those movies too, you should for sure watch them. :) and there's plenty more!

The movie has nothing to do with real life pirates. There were two kinds of pirates: legal and illegal. As it happens now, governments paid people to do their dirty work. Read about it in the web. Pirates were no worse than economists now

Yes, I agree marguicha, movie has nothing to do with real pirates because real pirates, I do not think they are that much good. they steal, kidnap. but may be before 800 or 1000 years back they could be more positive..

I think this depends on the pirate. I think that there were/are good and bad pirates. Just as there are good and bad people all over the world I do not think that pirates are any different. They have a different lifestyle and way of living, but I do not believe that they are all necessary good or bad. I think it has a lot to do with what their purpose in life as a pirate involves.

That was true, the movie itself conveying that...there were war between pirates themselves(good and bad). :)

Errr jack sparrow good? i always laugh at that movie because everyone were so on their side. Its true jack sparrow at the end had a nice act of kindness but he wasnt a good guy. In fact Pirates of the Caribbean doesnt have good guys have guys going for what they wanted/needed by any term. Like he said at the end of the movie "Take what you can, give nothing back".

edxcast, yes still he is bad...atleast we should be happy that at the end he had a nice act of kindness. you know I admired him sometimes of his intelligence and presence of mind in the movie :)

There were different kinds of pirates. Some had letters of marque - basically a licence issued by a particular government that they could indulge in piracy as long as they didn't attack the ships of the country issuing the licence.
Some pirates went on to become quite respectable, like Captain Morgan who became governor of Jamaica.

I don't think they are good at all. They kill and steal from people. But maybe some of them are good and are just taking orders. There are still pirates today, just not dressed as they were before- and they kidnap people.

I think jack sparow is the new icon of pirates.
He funny and cool.I hope the pirates like him.
