hi cindyhxf I am from the United States too, and I think your friend may be a bit of a snob. Here in the US we have rich people and nice homes, middle class people, and ordinary homes, poor people and not quite so nice homes. bu t he was making it out that all people in whatever place he was talking about were poor and the building old, and he evidently does not know very much. In every country that I haver read about they have the same thing as in my US, all sorts of conditions from very rich to very poor. So do not feel bad as he did not know beans about what he was saying. You are so right, from the poor to the rich we all want the same things out of life, and we find happiness. You can be poor yet still be happy. He tried to m ake you think that this big country of ours, the US is all rich people and fancy homes well he is so wrong, we are just like any other country, some are rich with fine homes, others are poor but have much richness of love and happiness in their lives and live in adequate homes. what a snob that friend of yours is. do not feel bad, a lot of us here in the Us are far from rich but we also have strong will to live and find happiness also, I am one of those myself. do not let him ruin your happiness at all.cindy.

I'm sorry that you had to go through that experience, but I think your friend needs to get out a little more. I, too, live in the United States and I'm willing to bet that all he has to do is walk about five miles down the road from wherever he lives to find the "bad section" of town where all the poor people live. I'm not, by any means, poor. I have enough money for a good house, good food, and luxuries when I want them. I'm better off than lots of people in the US. It's a shame that some people are so wrapped up in themselves and their life that they can't notice what's happening so close to them. If they did, maybe they could do something to help change it and make things better.

We all come from different places and not every country enjoy the same economic prosperity as other countries. It differs from country to country and again depends so much on the government of the day in that country. Where there are so much corruption and abuse the citizens of a country will suffer and will never prosper. Nevertheless, some might not be rich but they are living in harmony with what they have.

yes..i agree with you friend...though a person may not be poor, we should know and understand teh hardships of the others around us.....if possible try to help them..and if not, atleast have a good and kind heart towards them, all people have equal right to live and struggle for their happiness, live and let live should be our attitude, thats what i think

I think sometimes there are some ignorant people in the world. Actually I have known an American friend who lives in New York for many years. I think he started to know more about China because of me. He told me that even there are some poor people and old buildings in New York. It also has its dark side. I just want to say that people who live in the good and rich environment shall care about more other people. Then they will understand how lucky they are and try to be helpful for those people who are in need. I love China

Rich countries have poor people too. I think correlating the ancient buildings to the number of poor people in the area is not correct to make such generalizations. Poverty has many roots and certainly progress also has some part of its society being neglected. I think that person has never really travelled and understand people and other places. It is not good to speak out of ignorance. If one has no good to say, might as well shut his or her mouth. But then again, it is good that you have told him how you feel. China is a wonderful place and reading from your post, I think that person does not really know Chinese history.

In our country you will really find a lot of poor people and old buildings. It is because our country is considered poor. We know that some countries are rich and life there is comfortable and luxurious. These life's polarities pose a challenge to our leaders to do something, to narrow or eliminate the discrepancy.

I am from the countryside of China, where I meet many many poor people. And when I am studying in some big cities, I meet many rich people as well as poor ones. From the international news, all kinds of life are showed in front of us, including wealth and poverty. So in every corner of the world, both wealth and poverty is general. In addition, I believe whether being happy or not is not decided by money.
