I went to the mall today and driving around in the parking lot trying to find a spot, two adults holding on to a child hand come out of Zellers and without looking they just walk across...I noticed that lots of peoples do that, they assume that nobody's going fast enough and they don't even bother to look, they just come out of the store talking or pushing a grocery cart and just walk across. It bugs me cause i see no sign that says they have the right away so why don't they look? It just bug me...

It truly is annoying at times when people just cross and don't look. If anyone with that habit unfortunately gets into an accident, I don't think they should blame anyone else but themselves. When I cross the road, I look both ways, check the traffic light on which lane's turn or direction is it, then I look backwards too for possible cars that would turn to my direction.

I always look just out of habit but honestly at some of those places no one could speed through that area if they wanted to. Theres always too many other cars moving at Captain Turtle speed and pedestrians who waddle with their over loaded carts down the middle of the car lots instead of to the side where they should be.

God forbid, but I think one day they’ll look from their hospital bed! You are so correct about the casual approach of most pedestrians towards traffic on the road….more so specially people coming out of shopping malls or cinema halls. They are so engrossed in discussing the past hours or so, that they forget that they are now out on the road and got to look properly for traffic around them before they can move in any direction. And think of the child! Apart from the inherent risks, what is that child learning about road manners and safety!

It never ceases to amaze me how many people simply step stright into the road without looking at all, and then they wonder why there is a car about to hit them. This happens frequently in our local supermarket car park, people shove their trollys out in front of cars, and even amble around behind cars as they are trying to reverse out.

It boggles my mind that people would do that, and especially if they are with a child. People just assume the cars are going to stop. Pedestrians generally have the right-of-way...but that doesn't make the injuries hurt any less when they get hit.

People can be so stupid sometimes, they put way too much blind trust into things like cross walks and other people. I really noticed this when we were in Vegas last year. Some of the intersections were incredibly tricky and sometimes the 'don't walk' signs seemed like they made no sense. If you paid attention you could see why they were necessary and sometimes you could scoot across without much danger. But other times you really could not see if someone was coming and you had to wait. It seemed like once one person figured out that it was safe to quickly jaunt across two dozen other people would just blindly follow - often with little kids in tow! It was ridiculous to watch. People just think 'oh, they'll stop'. Well, I don't think that's really good enough!

I always look before I go. I remember one time, my oldest daughter was about 2 1/2 maybe 3. We were at Stop and Shop they have a stop sign right by the enterance door. I saw this car coming and was maybe about 100 feet from the stop sign. I know they had no intentions of stoping So I walked right out holding my daughters hand. She was on the opposite side of me so I would have been the one to get hit. I saw the person coming and they had the stop sign, and they give ME the dirty look!! I couldnt believe it! Now if there wasnt a stop sign I would have waited but regardless I see where your coming from because it annoys the crap out of me too.

I hate when pedestrians think that just because they have the right away they don't have to look. I may be driving almost to the crosswalk and not have enough time to stop. I mean there are times when it's just not safe to cross - whether you have the right away or not! I'd be especially careful if I had a child with me too, geesh. Some people just don't care though! It's sad.
