Here's a shot of some of the sweet corn I started from seed this year. This variety is of the yellow and white kernel type. I have 30 seeds planted and about 10 have sprouted so far. Gonna be tasty roasted on the grill. Have you ever eaten yellow and white kernel sweet corn? As always..... HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I love corn. I have it all the time with just about all of my meals. I love fresh corn but I mostly eat it from the can since I don't have a garden. I like yellow and white corn but most of the time, I eat white corn. I eat the shoe peg variety. It sounds like it's really going to be good roasted on the grill! Yum!!! Kathy.

No, I just usually buy it at the grocery store. I have considered buying some fruits and vegetables from a curb market, though. That's an idea. I have to really watch my pennies these days. It's very hard these days with the economy the way it is and when you're living on SSI like I am. Kathy.

I love growing corn, but unfortunately, ants usually attack my corn & my bananas before I can get to them. But I keep trying.

Lay down some fertilizer and ant killer. That's what we do. It's the racoons I have to watch for with my corn each year. As always..... HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Problem with that is I try to stay organic. I can't remember the last time I used a pesticide on the garden. And the only fertilizer I use is yard clippings, household waste, newspaper & sometimes a trip to the farm for some composted manure. Got any recommendations for organic ant control?

Its getting that time of year. I know your just itching to get outside and start digging and planting. You just have to be patient, you can dig but you got to keep your planting inside for now. Its so much fun to start seeds indoors. I don't have a place to do it, I have lunatic cats that would destroy the plants if I did. My son has been planting the garden the last couple of years. I have two neighbors that have a friendly competition going on. They won't admit to competing but I know different. I enjoy it, I get to see the garden grow and eat the fresh vegies. I am so looking forward to eating some fresh vegies from the garden, I wish it were sooner then later.

I do not think I have ever had corn roasted on the grill. I would love to, with butter dripping all over the place. Yum. I hope to go buy some garden supplies tomorrow. I am taking my son along to do the heavy lifting. Hubby will be at work. I have a hard time getting him convinced that we garden much earlier in Kansas than he did in Michigan or Rhode Island. He finally started helping to prepare the old plot that we have not used in a few years. I want MORE veggies this year.

I add my spices onto the ear in the husk. Then add some butter and a little water. The rewrap the husk around the corn and wrap that in foil. About 30 minutes on the grill, turned once, and viola, the best tasting sweet corn ever. Gonne be near 70 next week, so I'll be out digging, turning etc I am sure. And I will post discussions/photos as well. As always..... HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

My ex husband called that "peaches and cream" and it was his favorite! It was wonderful, so tender, sweet and tasty! That type of corn was what taught me to eat corn plain with no salt or butter. In fact, altering the flavor seemed like an insult to the corn, in my opinion. I hope you get a lot of great corn from your seedlings!

hi Grandpa Bob Ihave eaten both and loved them, Iam a sweet corn on the cob buff for sure. I like yellow best but white is okay too. We get frozen and canned corn here but no roasting ears, they just do not know what they are missing. I was broughtup on home grown sweet corn and do miss it a lot too.Roasted on the grill should be super delicious oh wish i had some right now. lol lol

Yep, I have. Yum. Corn on the cob is the only "veggie" that all three children will eat voluntarily.

Hello webeishere, I like eating corn, both the yellow and white sweet corn. But I don't have a garden of that here. We just buy it from the market or maybe when we passed by in the street, there are some people selling that. It can be a corn on the cob, or corn already on the cup, hot with butter. It's delicious. We also tried drinking corn shake and it's good. Happy gardening and Have Fun posting!

I believe I have had yellow and white kernel sweet corn, as it is we have planted and grown quite a few types ourselves only the last time we did our garden which was 2 yrs ago, we ended up feeding the local wildlife (squirrels, possums, rabbits, etc.) got to eat more of it that we did. We live is a very industrial area and our back yard is small so our garden was about 10x7 and even though it was fun and we really enjoy gardening we cant really do a big garden, or any for that fact right now since we have to find a way to be able to keep most of the vegetables without the wild life getting it.....LOL I hope your corn turns out, we end up going to our local farmers market and getting alot of vegetables now and we can not wait until it opens and we will grill corn ourselves...it is so good that way!!! Happy mylotting and enjoy your garden!!!!
