What are the essential features that make a good decent, comfortable website.
is it its designs,
is it its content,
its colours,
its contrast and fonts,
its popularity (company popularity)

For me, a good website doesn't take a long time to load. The texts should be readable and the color combinations should be comfortable for the eyes. It should also contains a lot of useful informations. I believe, these are some factors to consider a website good. Have a nice day! Happy myLotting!

In my opinion, it's really the contents that is what important. A simple design website can also be good if it has good contents and information. Another advantage of it is it's easier to load and any browser can open it well. Animated websites or those created in flash are also good as long as it doesn't take a long time to load and it's good for the eyes and cannot make the visitor's dizzy. Lol! Visitors doesn't want to wait. If the website will compete in a contest, then animated one is really preferable but if not, then better stick with the basic and simple ones. i think there is nothing which is most needed. what is needed most is the organisation of the website. simply how you present your website to the user so that he could easily understand and navigate it with less confusion.
your website must have the content which should be clear and good because that is the only way which represents you here.
and the last and important thing is the appearance.

- First, unique QUALITY content, because if we write crap, it doesn't worth to create a site.
- A good design and colors which not hurt eyes like flashy colors like too pink/red/yellow
- A domain name not too long
Popularity will come naturally after you set up a website with criterias above.
But the most important thing is CONTENT.
