It's a small world (Part 5?)

I have said in the past that I am Maggiepie's helper. So yesterday (Friday, March 26, 2010) I went down to a place to see if I could get some more assistance for her. There I met a nice worker named Nancy. Well, we got on great, had fun chatting while she was taking care of the paperwork and talking about her dog and my cats and stuff. It was several hours later (yes, it really took that long, not wasting my time or anything) before I got back to Maggie's with some food from their food pantry and stuff. So, I make Maggie's breakfast (more like lunch now) and fix her food for the weekend. I get home, and then, after the roomie got off work, we ran over to Walmart. We are looking for Easter candy for her nieces and nephews and picking up some Birthday cards. (2 nieces and one nephew had birthdays last week and her dad has week.) And who do we run into at Walmart? Yep, you guessed it, NANCY! Maggie used to say "I can't take you anywhere," and I don't know that the roomie really believed until she lived with me!

Maggie is disabled, part of my job is to fix food for her. I guess if she were sufficiently disabled, I'd have to feed her too - I do my mom most of the time that I take her to eat. But Maggie doesn't have that problem... Honestly, if she were that disabled, I wouldn't be ABLE to take care of her. Mom has her good days and her bad days, seems to have more not so good but really bad days lately - she's going to Great Courses, but Most Wednesdays she sleeps through most of them. She'll do good while my sister is here next week.

Hey Elic! There's nothing like being a friendly person! I have a friend like that who no matter where we go she always runs into someone that she knows or knows her! She does work in the library so that may be part of it! But, it never fails to happen! We can be on the bus, in a store, just walking through the neighborhood and someone will stop her! I feel like I am always just tagging along! Sometimes it gets kind of annoying because she loves to talk alot and will stop and talk and talk like I'm not even standing there waiting for her! So, I guess I understand what Maggiepie means, even if she never got annoyed!

And I don't even work in a place that I see a lot of people - so its just funny that I did run into her! But we don't linger long, too many things to do - for both of us!

Around here that would not surprise me, but my town is considerably smaller than yours. It is more surprising to see it in a town the size of Austin. Of course we all have to have groceries, etc. so we have to shop somewhere, and what store seems to be everywhere? Wal Mart, of course.

Oh yeah, definitely.. It's a real small world out there.. and I keep bumping into people that I want to bump to and those that I do not want to.. I think that's a chuckling comment Maggie said there..

Yep, like the time she went to introduce me to this great supervisor of hers and it turned out to be an old playmate of mine.

hi elicbxn oh you really love Maggiepie, okay. It is a small world really. the day I went to the dedication of the New tustin Library I met fellow workers I had not seen in four years there, and we were four older white haired and grey haired women had who worked in the old library. People stopped to watch as we had a group hug. I was almost in tears at seeing one of my old friends who had not aged too well, and she looked so frail. Time uses each of us I guess in different ways. I am overweight but I still look pretty healthy. I bet you and Maggie Pie are staunch friends too. he he.

I am really good friends with Maggie and she is on here when she can be. She has been having a problem that means sitting up is hard to do, so she's not been here as much as she would like to be. I hope she'll be able to sit up and mylot again soon - and not just because I get some change because she's my referral....

No, just a minute, we both had too much else to do to linger long.

And shopping experiences may appear to be longer.. all in good fun. I bump into people whilst in coffee houses sometimes.. and one minute becomes one hour before I know it..

It is mostly amazing because of the size of Austin. Granted my friend Elaine and I once ran into a coworker of hers in HOUSTON, but even Austin can take upward to half an hour to get across - on the freeway!

Honestly, we mostly run into people that the roomie knows at this Walmart, I guess the oddest run into tho, was running into a friend at the roomie's dr's office, tho she's the one who recommended him, its still unusual to actually run into someone at the dr's office

Yeah, I kept finding myself re-reading a line a time or two and even out and out losing my place when I read the book.

I went to the bank the other day, and one of the tellers said, "Didn't you have longer hair?" "Yes." "Wasn't it lighter and less gray when you subbed at my school named _____?" "Yes, that was about 10 years ago." So I get that a lot, too, but not as much as my brother with a 60 IQ. Everybody knows him. No matter how many places I work, I can't beat him! One person might know me, but about 10 know him!

some people are more memorable than others... of course, it doesn't help that I really have very little memory for people. If I had slept I probably wouldn't have remember her!

Everyone, between the two of us, we know most of Austin, it seems, & sometimes we know one another's friends & acquaintances without realizing it--Elic, think Mary B, & Peter S.! I guess it's a blessing, because it does save time on introductions! Me: "'Elic'? I'd like you to meet my nice supervi--" Elic: "Mary! How are you! When 'Maggie' mentioned she had this great supervisor, how was I to know it was you!" See what I mean? Maggiepie "There really is more unknown (& unknowable) to the Universe than any of us can dream!"

Not quite how it went you went one direction, I went the other, she turned around and I came nose to nose with her. I couldn't have recognized my MOTHER that close, we both took a step back. You came back and started... "Elic, I want to..." "MARY B...." I said her whole name. She said, at the same time, a name I had gone by when she met me. And you said - "I hate this."

It’s good to be a friendly soul, I tend to be a little too reserved sometimes…I don’t live in a small town and yet I have run into the same people in very different places which is bizarre. There is a woman I got chatting to in a café one day and since that day I have seen her, not just around the area we both live in but the other side of the river which is a good 40 minutes away from here on more than one occasion. We always say hi and that we must stop meeting like this! Strange isn’t it? She is the one person I run into the most and I barely know her!

I'm honestly not really that out going, its surprising how often I meet people, tho some cases I only discover the relationship later, like the guy I met when he wrecked his car, and turned out he worked with dad..

I have a friend just like you! It seems she knows someone everywhere we go. I don't know too many people. She is outgoing and talks to everyone, where as I am shy and would rather not talk to anyone if I can help it. If I see someone I know, most times I pretend I didn't see them and hope they don't see me. If she sees someone she knows she can't wait to talk to them. Sometimes she talks and talks to the person till I get tired of standing there, it seems she'll never stop. She always tries to include me in the conversation, but I really don't respond well I guess. When we go somewhere on a deadline we always have to leave extra time for her to talk to whomever she meets.

Well, a lot of it is that I've lived in the same city all my life and I went to large schools and have worked in the state office of a large organization so while I am shy, I have been around a LOT of people

So you are more like me than my friend! It doesn't seem typical for a shy person to know a lot of people.
