Do you think new student loans since Health care coverage passed will help?

Since the new Health coverage bill pass and there was section on student loans that passed more Pell Grant money but harder to get students loans from private banks will help our students in college or hurt them. Remember Government took over this now too. I will have this fall in college and I made over roughly 51,000 so they may not qualify for the Pell Grants because the change the qualifying amount to $50,000 etc.. I hope both my daughters get some money from the Government. I know last year I did not qualify for Bank loan because of my credit and she had to go to her grandparents to her to qualify as the co-signer. With college tution going higher each year by hundreds of dollars... it will make it very hard to get a degree. Thanks and Have a Happy Easter Weekend Sincerely Unique16

It's the federal student loan program. It's been under Federal control the whole time. The only thing that's changed is whether the Fed handles itself or if the Fed uses it as a way for banks to line their pockets at taxpayer expense.

You should have already submitted your FAFSA application to sallie mae if you're looking for assistance with college expenses for this coming Fall. It's not too late but you won't know if your household qualified for a Pell grant unless you apply. Federal student loans will not be harder to get but you should look at every grant and scholarship opportunity that's available before taking out a loan. Here's a link to the FASFA page: http://www.salliemae.com/get_student_loan/apply_student_loan/understanding/financial_aid/fafsa/

Billions of dollars a year freed up to lend to college students rather than pad a bank executive's annual bonus? Yeah, that's going to be a big help.
