I started a discussion yesterday ( I think it was yesterday) about my husband grinding his teeth while sleeping. When he woke up this morning, his jaw hurts and everytime he opens his mouth, you could here a click on his right jaw. He said it hurts a lot and we plan to visit the dentist tomorrow. Hope that everyone who has a grinding habit while sleeping will see this discussion and do not take it as a simple disorder, for you might end up like my poor husband Is there some sort of massage or exercise for this?

It is TMJ (Tempo mandibular joint dysfunction). I have that too and even up to now I don't have money to correct it. There's an exercise to avoid pain and you need to do hot compress the jaw. I had several session in physical therapy but it doesn't go away. Avoid eating very hard food because it can worsen the pain of the jaw and avoid eating bubble gum. Consult a TMJ doctor for your husband.

hi agv, we consulted a dentist already and he quoted us almost $12,000 for the whole therapy which we can't really afford. Never knew that it would be that much. I think maybe another cause of his TMJ is not only his grinding teeth habit but also he likes to chew bubblegum a lot. Do we need to do hot compress all the time or just when it hurts?
