Seeing the beauty in the world

It rained all day today. Not nice when you have to walk to and from school in it. Don't misunderstand me, I love the rain. I just prefer having the choice of whether or not to go out and get soaked! When I was walking home from school with my 5 year old daughter, the wind was bitterly cold and the rain was running down our faces. I have a cold and didn't want to be frozen and wet. Making conversation, I said to my daughter, "its a horrible day. I can't wait to get home." At which she stopped and turned to me, wide-eyed with surprise, and replied, "But Mummy, its a BEAUTIFUL day! The flowers are all blooming because the rain is going on them!" It made me think. There was a time when I would have seen it the same way. Why is it, as we get older, we lose the inclination to see the beauty in the world? I'm going to try to see things from her point of view now, because I remember when everything was magical, and I want to hold onto that feeling!
