How Can I Get My Dog To Be Still For A Picture?

My Jack Russell Terrier will not be still for a picture. Everytime I get my camera ready to take her picture, she will run and hide under the table, turn her head, etc. If I had somebody living with me, I would get them to hold her for me. That is, if this person liked animals and didn't mind holding a dog. But as it is, I live alone and that's not a choice. Can anybody tell me how I can get her to be still for a picture? Once I get my scanner problems fixed and once I can get a good picture of her, I will post a picture of her on here.

The last picture I took of her, she wouldn't look at the camera. I think it's hard to get a good picture of any animal, myself. I was lucky that Cyrus, my horse, stood still for this picture I took of him in my avatar. Sometimes I think animals are like humans,. They will do anything to avoid the camera, LOL! Kathy.

Hey Kathy! I have the same problems with my two cats, Star and Luna! By the time I get the camera ready to "shoot" they are gone or at least not in the position that I wanted them to be in to take their picture! And I'm still not really that good with the camera yet either! And I also got a new printer, scanner, copier and don't know how to work that either! And I still can't post the pictures from the camera! I am a total mess when it comes to doing this stuff! It's just all so new for me! My "computer guy" shows me once and leaves!lol I have the manual for the Sony Camera, but it doesn't help! I'll just have to wait for Jay to give me another lessons~

I'm pretty good with the camera but I still have a lot to learn about my scanner and posting pictures on here. A lot of times when I have the camera ready to take Prissy, my dog's, picture, she will turn her head or like I said in my discussion, she will run and hide somewhere. I think it's hard to get any animal to be still for a picture. I was lucky that Cyrus, my horse, would be still for the picture I made of him in my avatar. I made this picture with my cell phone and somebody told me at at&t wireless how to upload it from my cell phone to my computer. On here, it looks blurry, but on the cell phone, it's very clear. I don't understand that. Sometimes I think animals are like people. They hate having their picture made, lol! Kathy.

That's what another mylotter suggested. I might try this but it might wake her up, too. She has awaken whenever I approached her while sleeping.

My female chihuahua is like that. Now what I do is when I want to take a picture I find a toy or something to distract her then I can focus ...when I'm ready I just say her name and she looks..but you have to find something that holds her interest long enough not for just seconds...lol Sometimes if you tire them out first you'll find it's much easier...of course a jack russell doesn't usually tire easily..

Thank you for your suggestion. I can try this but I'm not sure if it will work. If she sees me with the camera, off she goes! You're absolutley right! It's not easy to get a JRT tired! She does sleep a lot when she's in the house, I might try to catch her when she's asleep! Btw, I'm sorry I'm just now getting around to responding to your response. It never did show up in my email and I thought I would check my discussion to see if I got any more responses to it lately and I saw yours. Thank you for responding. Kathy.

You may have to start with a shot of her sleeping! How about eating? LOL. Maybe a friend or neighbor can help. Good luck and I look forward to seeing your picture.

Thank you, drannhh! These are ideas. I have neighbors but we're not really that close, if you know what I mean. I just hope she won't wake up if I try to get a picture while she's sleeping. I guess the reason why I never thought to get a picture of her while she was eating is because I always wanted her to look at the camera. I will try these, anyway. Kathy.

I would be far from an expert on this, but I would imagine that she would sit relatively still, if you gave her a treat. I am probably wrong though, I frequently am. It seems to work with children though. With appreciation.

Some of us, People and animals alike are such Hams for it too. I hope it goes well for you, if not, next time I am in the area I will help. Could be a while though. Takes time to get my finances straight lately. With appreciation.

Thank you for responding, CJ! This might help. It wouldn't hurt to try it, anyway. Sometimes I think animals are like humans. They hate having their picture made and they will do anything to avoid the camera, lol! I think it's hard to get a good picture of any animal, myself. I was lucky that my horse, Cyrus, stood still for this picture I have of him in my avatar. I will try giving her a treat and let you know if this works. Have a Happy Easter. Kathy.

Dear Kath....you did say a JRT, didn't you? I truly think that it is a JRT thing..as you know, I have one too! Get a picture of him...Negative! To take my mind off things when my Mother just recently passed, I decided to go to Salishan Kennels, to visit my dog's brother (where he is a Breeder) My dog is "Salishan Bruiser" and his brother is "Salishan Briar"! Do you think there was any WAY I could get a picture of Briar...NO! I really wanted a picture of him, to frame to go along with the ONE good picture I have of "Brui"! As soon as the camera comes out....he's off like a bullet. And they never seem to stay still..do they? All I can say is be persistent...you'll catch her on film one day. LOL! Take care, and Cheers!

Hi pergammano! It's good to see you back on mylot! How are you doing these days? Please know that I have been praying for you. Some of the other mylotters have been telling me they have the same trouble getting their pets to be still for a picture, too, so I don't guess it's just a JRT thing. My dog sleeps a lot when she's in the house. Other than that, she is very hyper. I can't help but wonder if she might be afraid of the camera? I think it's hard to get any animal to be still for a picture, myself. I was just lucky that Cyrus, my horse, stood still for the picture I made of him in my avatar. Sometimes I think they're like humans! They'll do anything to avoid the camera! Kathy.
