I'm always sleepy..is it normal?

I don't really know why I'm always sleepy; I get enough sleep everyday and I even sleep a bit during noontime- I even drink coffee once or twice...but still I get sleepy easily. When I was watching tv for a while- sitting on the rocking chair I didn't notice that I fell asleep- it happens a lot... Is this normal?

I have not seen or met a person like that- maybe you should consult a doctor.. Since that may be symptoms of a sickness or something... To much or too little sleep is both very dangerous..

You might not be getting any deep sleep at night. That usually happens if you are up every now and again, looking after the baby or someone sick or disabled in your family. It also could be due to sleep apnea, you wake up because you feel you have to catch your breath. One thing I learned was that if you snore, that means you are not getting deep sleep. Just ask "Do I snore?" So that could be one reason. You could also have narcolepsy or maybe you are getting diabetes. I would ask a doctor about it. That would be my best bet.

I have been told that I snore, and I tried two pillows to get rid of it. I also have a hard mattress and perhaps I should save money and get on of those Miracle Foam. I do find I have to go to the bathroom twice a night. And I also get tired during the afternoon. But I have always been a light sleeper. I used to be borderline diabetes, just on the other side of becoming one, so that could be that. And one of the clues is getting up to go to the bathroom all the time. However, so far, have not found out how many times. But I think much of it has to do with the mattress.

Same with me I do snores too especially if I'm drunk. What my wife usually does is roll me on my side while I'm asleep, she said it lessens the sound of my snore when she did that. By the way you have said you used two pillows to get rid of your snore.Does it really helps, I'm just curious maybe I could try that too.And you said too you used to be a borderline diabetic, my wife readings before is over 100 so she takes maintenance medication and now it's around 80 to 90. Some doctors says when it's over 100 it's diabetic so below that is on the safer side. Can you tell me if you don't mind my asking, that below 100 reading is safe already so no need for medication. Thanks for your time my friend.

These are good thoughts my friend. I guess I have one or two of those you have mentioned. I usually wakes up every now and then. My wife do tell me sometimes I snores especially if I'm to tired from work. Yeah, I guess I should seek professional opinion if this habit of mine continuous.

I don't really think that I would consider this to be normal. What I would guess is that when you are sleeping you aren't having the best quality of sleep. I can't diagnose if you have any sleep based illnesses, but that could be a possibility. For me, I have a difficult time falling and staying asleep and that means that there are a lot of times that I am tired, but it is something that I've gotten used to so it doesn't really bother me any more.

I don't think so too, but I guess almost every night I sleep soundly except for me every now and then waking up to go to bathroom. I guess I have to change my sleeping habit because sometimes I sleep late because I watch TV or read books. Before I have my morning walks/jogs before hitting the shower and have my breakfast. I think I'll have to do that again and engage also in some form of exercises and be active again.

Why don't you try drinking energy drinks to boost you up. I do it sometimes when i feel sleepy at work. Try it. Maybe it'll work for you.

Yeah, most people says energy drinks really helps when one feel sleepy or sluggish while at work. But they say it's addicting maybe to some, but for the moment I think try to do some stretching and a bit of strenuous exercises to perspire a bit. I hope it helps.

I don't really know either, you should consult a doctor- I read that getting more sleep than normal can cause diabetes and other sickness.

Yeah, your right I should see a doctor to know more about this habit of mine. I don't think this sleeping habit of mine had something to do with me getting ill. I just need to change my habit by exercising regularly and eating the right food. Thanks for the comments my friends.

When was the last time you asked your doctor to realize a bloodtest? Maybe you could suffer under anaemia. That also produces the sensations to feel sleepy all the time. Also low blood pressure can make you feel similar. Perhaps you may start to check a bit your health. It doesn't mean that's something serious, but it is always better to disqualify any reasons based on your health system.

I don't know that having a low blood pressure makes one sleepy. Yeah, I guess it's a god idea to have my blood tested. I'm sure I'm not anemic or something.

I would check with your doctor if you don't think how much you're sleeping is normal. I go to sleep at night and get up in the morning and I don't sleep again until nighttime. I can't sleep during the day cause I get mean when I wake back up. lol Needing a lot of sleep could mean heart problems or anything. Are you taking any medications that make you sleepy? I take Zyrtec for my allergies each day and if I just sit down and do nothing I will get really sleepy from the medicine but as long as I'm constantly going I am fine.

Maybe I should change my lifestyle habit. I have stop exercising so I guess I have to be active again in my morning walks/jogs. I have to consult my doctor too just to be sure. Thanks for your time my friend.

I think you have anemia, because back then, when I really got low iron in my blood, I always feel sleepy and tired all the time. I suggest you come to a doctor because obviously it's not normal. I used to be like that too, but now, I'm the opposite. I rarely feel sleepy and it's hard for me to fall asleep now.

I have consulted a doctor already about this habit of mine. He said that I should have a regular exercise routine. And be active always so as not to feel sleepy.

You may want to do some research into sleep disorders, just to rule that out. My wife has narcolepsy and I have insomnia, so I have done a lot of research into sleep disorders and spoken with several specialists. What you are describing could possibly be a symptom of narcolepsy or sleep apnea (ask someone close to you if you snore, combined with daytime sleepiness this is a big warning flag). A sleep study is the only way to find out for sure. Sleep well...

Well, I hope it is nothing serious. Yes, I do snores too most of the time as my wife have said. Sometimes he just roll me on my side and she said it did help too. I have consulted a GP already and he said I lack exercise and must take vitamin supplements too. Thanks for your time my friend.

Yup, I think it was a normal. However, you will overcome this by everyday exercises. Maybe the same symptoms as of mind. I'm sure you're fat or a lot of cholesterol. If you don't mind, have a check-up with your doctor.

Being sleepy all the time is not normal in my opinion. Have you talked to your doctor. There can be a lot of reasons for feeling sleepy even if you get enough sleep in the night and noontime! One must have some periods of maximum condition during the day. I mean fresh and clear mind. Feeling sleepy may have many reasons, so consult a specialist.

Yeah, your right it's not normal. I have consulted a doctor lately and he said I have to be active always. Keep myself busy so as not to feel sleepy. And exercise is really a must to boost my energy.

sounds like you might be getting too much sleep and/or not enough activity. you might want to try to exercise a bit more, or start exercising if you dont now. also looking at what youre eating, looking for more healthier foods and less junkie foods will help you're energy levels as well.

Yeah, I guess the best thing for me to do is have regular exercise. I thought drinking coffee will keep us more alert and awake but it's the opposite for me I feel sleepy after having a cup.

Anemia..maybe you need ferrous [iron]. One of my friends have a deficiency of it too. So she takes ferrous tablets or something. I hope that can help you somehow.

it is either you are depressed or not gettting enough vitamins and nutrients in your body. have you investigated these 2 possibilities yet? some people find that stress keeps them awake. but others find it causes them to sleep to much for escape. Do you take any vitamin supplements?
• Philippines

Yes, before I have been taking vitamin supplements. But lately I have stopped because I thought that it would be more beneficial if I eat vitamin rich foods. I guess I should consult a GP about this habit of mine. Thanks my friend.

No, Stanley, that is not normal. You may suffer from sleep apnea. That means you are semi-waking up all night long and never getting enough rest. My son and daughter have it. My daughter was waking up 80 times an hour without realizing it! She would be eating and go to sleep with the spoon halfway to her mouth or playing a game and doze off in the middle of moving her piece on a board game. Within seconds after sitting down, she was asleep. Narcolepsy is another sleeping disorder that keeps you tired and falling asleep without any prolog. My uncle had that and was in a serious car accident because he fell asleep when he thought he didn't feel at all tired! Go to the doctor and get checked out - fast!

Yeah, I have consulted the GP already and the results are normal. He just said that I have to have an exercise routine. Watched I'm eating and to keep busy if possible so that there is no idle moment for me to sit and get sleepy during daytime.

It is not normal to be sleepy all of the time. I am always tired also, but I have a physical problem, and one of the side effects is fatigue. I excercise everyday and take a lot of vitamins, but I am still always tired. I think maybe you should get checked out by a doctor to see if there is some underlying problem.

I thunk thats not normal I think you don't have endurance. Regular exercise at Gym will help for you, make you feel refresh. At first you will feel tired but in few day you will feel have many energy and make you happier. Its happen to me before when I have stressful job and its make me really tired.

Yes, I thought so too my friend. I have to change my lifestyle habit. I'm planning to join a health club or subscribe to a gym instructor to have my regular exercise. Or start my morning walks/jogs before breakfast to boost my energy.

If you get sleepy too much, it may be that you are not getting enough vitamin in your body system. Also, some people get sleepy drinking coffee. I myself get sort of sleepy after i drink coffee, and there is some people that it just makes them hyper. So, there could be different things in your body that causes that, you might need to get some form of exercise plan each day. I ride a Trikke every day, which is a full fitness exercise machine and i feel really good after i do my daily ride.

Some said that drinking coffee keeps one awake, but the effects on me is the opposite. At night I'll have my coffee before going to bed. It makes me sleep soundly. Yeah, I think I should change my habit . No more nap at noon time. And I'll try to have an exercise if possible daily. Thanks for your time my friend.

As for me, I have observed that I feel more sleepy when I get stressed or tired mentally or physically. It may be the same with you if you are always busy thinking or planning of things around. Of if your work requires you to think harder than the regular jobs. Physical activities make us feel exhausted and make us feel tired which can be remedied via relaxation, rest or of course, sleep. Check out what's keeping you tired and pushes you to sleep more often that you think a regular person should. Maybe you're not engaging into that much strenuous physical things but you might be indulged in very tiring mental activities. Or maybe you are into anything stressful at this time but you haven't figured out which yet - physical, mental, financial, personal matters whatsoever.

Yes, I think your right. Maybe it's not the physical activities that gets me sleepy sometimes but as you have said it may be too much thinking and worrying. I guess I should practice meditation. Many said it helps to relieve stress too. Thanks for your time my friend.
