Too hot here

India
April 6, 2010 11:35pm CST
It is too hot here, power failure is so frequent, and most of us here use ceiling fans, table fans and stand fans, some use desert coolers and air conditioners. But when there is no electricity, these are of no use. In my family we use hand held fans made from bamboo leaves and there is another made from a kind of roots, called ‘ bena-cher’, when wet it gives a pleasant scent, just move it near your face you get cool scented breeze. These days bamboo leaf and benacher fans are becoming a rare so we use plastic fans. What about your place, is it summer there, too hot? How do you manage when there is no electricity? Prof

in Jakarta this time the weather was overcast, so not as hot as usual ... I do not know elsewhere, if the weather in Jakarta is hot, to cool the hot air, we usually just turn on the fan, opened the door and window wide so the breeze from outside can enter ...

b]Hello my friend Professor2010 Ji,[/b] Well, I am from Northern part of my country, where day temperature is shooting above 40 deg C. But even if I am in Indian silicon velley, it is as hot as at my place. You are vey much right that thereis no use of many electrical appliances in absence of power. One of my friend has been successfully living and moulding himself to these situation. can I do ?. Well, it is difficult. We all have to suffer. I have those fans, which is rare here, I am using that Bamboo fan since 20 yrs now. It still serves my purpose. May God bless You and have a great time.

dear professor, it is very difficult not to have electricity. we get rotational brownouts of 2-3 hours daily and when it happens during working schedules then we get to have lots of back logs in paper works. same thing here, we use fans. ours here is made from "nipa" and sometimes "anahaw". have a nice day. ann

Where are you that it is so hot? Here we are only starting spring. It's usually still quite cool this time of year but this year it's starting to get very warm early, and I really welcome it after the cold winter we just had.

Well Prof, Nevertheless, it is hot weather here also in my city. But thank God, there is no power cut which keeps me cool as I am fortunate, I have AC and without any power cut, it work for me a lot. When there is power cut, though it's very rare, but if so, I drink water which gives a soothing effect to my stomach. In summer, I love to eat water melon, cucumber a lot. Thanks.

Hi Professor2010 In my city, the goverment always provide sufficient power to us, so we don't worry about it too much. I always use AC when I feel hot or cold. Sometimes we use table fans. of course sometimes we have power faliure, but that was before, when I am just a liitle boy, in that time, we would use hand-held fans,I like that, I think it's more environmentally friendly

We are experiencing the same here in the Philippines. We are at a time we call "El Nino" which usually happens during summer where it's too hot, the brownouts are rampant, and heat strokes are frequent in the elder people. The air is hot, dry and stifling. It is sometimes compared to a drought (when the water levels in the water dams are at the critical level because of lack of rain and the crops die). When it is hot, it is really hot here where the temperature is around 37-40C. To alleviate this, we just stay at home and stay out of direct sunlight. We drink cold beverages and eat cold concoctions like halo-halo (mixed fruit with ice shavings, sugar and milk) or ice cream. We also tend to favor cold foods. About the frequent brownouts, well we can't do something about that. We just endure and take a lot of baths a day and use fans. Some of us tend to go on outings in beaches and resorts..:)

if its already summer then yes its already hot. in the philippines theres no more rain since january thats why its too hot aside for the fact that theres no electricity also at night, though worst is if its start raining because once rainy days is coming theres too much floods everywhere here.

fortunately, it is almost winter here now and the weather has cool down considerably nowadays... we just finish our summer season and it is really hot and humid here during summer... i definitely have to use the air conditioner during summer... there is no other options as the weather can get as high as 43 degrees here during summer which is too hot for me... take care and have a nice day...

It is almost the same here Professor. The heat is intense and there are frequent power cuts .Now since a week , we have been having power cuts at night too making sleep impossible. We use fans all through the day.I stay in the garden when the power fails it is much cooler and at least I can do something useful during that time.I have been drinking lots of water and tender coconut water to beat the heat...Just waiting for the rains which is more than a month away. The south west monsoons begin in early June....have a nice evening

we have power failure right now and it's so damn hot. We have it two days in a row. The thing is, the cut the power at 3PM, the time which is the hottest. Adding to the fact that were on a penthouse. I'm sweating buckets literally.

It's summer here too and when the heat is unbearable, we go to resorts to swim in pools and get the cool water drown out the heat. Some of us here go to beaches. I think Filipinos prefer to have water to cool down but not everyday. If there is no electricity, I go to places near trees where the breeze is cooler.
