Extreme Foot Pain…

Foot Pain...Foot Pain... - Foot Pain...

As some of you know, I have Type 2 diabetes. I’ve been a borderline diabetic for about 13 years and in the last 6-8 months things have been getting much worse. My biggest problem is my feet. They are constantly swollen and so painful. I can hardly wear shoes anymore and only wear them when I absolutely have to. My feet hurt whether I’m on them or not and the worst times are at night when I’m trying to sleep…I can’t even stand to have the blanket touch them. My Mom keeps telling me to wear special socks, soak them, and rub them…none of it works. She’s also suggested taking Ibuprofen for them…I’d have to take it around the clock to keep the pain away. I’ve also started noticing sensitivity in my fingertips as well in the last couple of weeks. My best bet is to go to the doctor, but right now it’s not an option. I intend to go as soon as I can but for right now I need to find a way to handle this problem with my feet. Does anyone know any way to manage the foot pain any better? Does the pain in my feet mean I’m going to end up losing them? Is the pain in my fingertips also connected to the diabetes? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Yes, the neuropathy in your hands and feet are a symptom of diabetes. Do what you can to get your sugar under control. I am not diagnosed as diabetic, but there is a lot of it that has come up in my family in the last ten years. ( I have not been tested) One thing that type two diabetics seem to be short of is magnesium, and I take that, it helps with muscle spasms as well as sugar control. My doctor and chiropractor both have me taking mega doses of B6. That helps with pain. I use OTC rubs that contain capsaisin, and it helps my feet. I had work related issues. Try putting ice either on your feet or an ice pack at the back of your knees--also recommended by my foot doctor. Elevate them whenever possible. When I first started working a little bit, I was on concrete ten hours at a time. I would put my feet in an ice bath. Good luck. No, the pain does not necessarily mean you will lose them, it is your wakeup call to eat right, and get thirty minutes of aerobic activity daily and drink lots of water. You have to do those things to save yourself. Also get plenty of sleep at night.

Well, I am going to try to get into the doctor this week if I can. I can't take the broken sleep anymore or the pain in my feet...it's kind of like having a toothache in my feet. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I just researched on mylot. First caregiver support items and then adjustible blanket support and other blanket items to keep the blankets off your feet. I think you might be able to do make-shift ones if see what different kinds look like.

Sorry to hear about the pain in your feet. The sensitivity in your fingertips is neuropathy, and some of the pain in your feet is too, but the swelling in your feet is probably edema which can be painful if it's extreme. http://diabetes.boomja.com/Alternative-Medicine-for-Diabetic-Neuropathy-431.html (Not an affiliate link) This web site has several articles about treating neuropathy naturally. Dandelion leaf is a great natural remedy for edema. It's a diuretic, but it also contains potassium so you don't have to worry about depleting necessary minerals while you take it. If there are dandelions growing in your area you can pick some fresh leaves and cover about 2 teaspoons full with a cup of hot water and steep for 15 minutes. If you find it too bitter to drink alone use a little of whatever sweetener you normally use. I understand what you're saying about going to the Doctor, but when diabetes starts affecting your feet in this manner treatment is needed immediately. I hope you find a solution soon.

I forgot to say you can take two cups of the dandelion tea per day, but you don't want to overwork your kidneys, so go easy on it.

I can only tell you that my mother had diabetes, too, and whenever she had anything with tomatoes in it, she would get shooting pains in her toes. Now, tomatoes are a member of the nightshade family, so that probably had something to do with it.

Nightshade family is supposed to affect people with arthritis in a negative way, making it worse. I am not sure if it is Osteo arthritis or Rheumatoid arthritis, or both. Nightshade also includes potatoes, and bell peppers, I believe. Possibly eggplant, I would have to search for sure.

Twoey68, Please go to a doctor right away, please. your health is at risk. I too have type two diabetes and my feet give me problems as well as my fingertips have nerve deadness now. If your feet are swelling then it may be from fluid retention and only a doctor can give you script for medication to reduce this. I had a friend once that kept putting it off and had to have her feet removed, please don't wait that long. If money is a problem then see your county aid folks they can guide you to help, but by all means do not put it off diabetes is serious stuff and will not cleasr up without help.

Well, I am going to breakdown and try to go this coming week. It's just a matter of making the time, having my Mom go with me (I don't go without her) and having the money for it. However, the pain is severe enough that it's affecting everything else like my sleep and walking. I think part of it is too, that I don't want to hear what the doctor has to say... I do hope that you don't put off getting some attention to this soon as diabetes is nothing to mess around with. You can probably do some search online and find some home remedies to help that will not cost you much out of pocket.

If you can't afford to go to the doctor, find a way. Go to the emergency room claiming extreme pain--anything, just get to a doctor!! This is nothing to mess with, diabetics lose feet to amputation frequently and while I don't want to scare you I do want you to take this seriously. I repeat--use the emergency room if you have to! Illegals do it all the time and as an American citizen you have a right to use the facility more than they do. The fact that your fingers are also giving you problems should alarm you. It may have something to do with blood circulation, nothing to mess around with!

As much as I hate the emergency room, I do resort to it as a last resort. The doctors out there are pretty much a joke but next week I'm going to see about getting into the doctor. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Foot problems with diabetics can be very serious. Be sure to check your feet often to make sure they are not getting any sores on them. If you do go to the doctor right away. If it is money that is worrying you or if you don't have insurance the doctor will work out a payment plan for you don't risk you feet. When I get sore feet I like to rub Aspercream on them it really seems to help me. In the mean time I would try to walk at least 20 minutes a day both to help you lose weight and to get our blood flowing. I would also try and lose a few pounds. A great way to do that easily is to eat vegetable based soups for lunch and snacks everyday. I have a couple of great recipes if you would like them. Also all the vegetables will help your system flush out more effectively and will hopefully help with the tingling in your fingers. It sounds like you really need to get your blood flowing. I like to do some calve stretches and lifts as well as bending and stretching my feet before I go to bed at night. Also for the swelling you might want to try eating some foods with a diuretic effect such as canteloupe, celery and watermelon. But do save up some money to go and see your doctor or at least give him or her a call and let them know what is going on. Explain that you can not come in at this time but that you need some advice. I am willing to bet they will want you to come in. But if a phone call is all you can do then you should do it.

I have one spot on the side of my foot just below my pinky toe that is getting a knot b/c I often sit my foot on that spot when I'm sitting at my desk. I'm trying to watch what I eat and move around as I can. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Okay....here's a stupid remedy....Have you tried putting a bar of soap under your sheets? Just any kind of bath soap...a bar of course. Put it under your sheets near your feet. Two years ago I went to Arizona and could hardly walk with knee pain. A lady down there told me to do it....so I did. I hardly have any knee pain anymore. You have to change the bar of soap about every six months. At least it's worth a try!

I have never heard of this, but I would be willing to try it. I cannot think of any reason why it would work, either. Hmmmmm. Is any kind of soap better than any others? I have Dove on hand

Hello there.. I hope you will go to the doctor soon. Besides pain, do you feel numbness on your fingertips and at the edge of your foot? Before all the pain started? Hope you will get better.. if it's so painful.. avoid cold drinks too.. and sweet stuffs of course. Other than that, perhaps you might want to just stick with warm water for now.. get well soon, twoey.

Yes, it started out as numbness and still is in my fingers but my feet have moved on to just pain mostly. I do notice that when I take a hot shower that the pain in my feet ease up. Of course I can't stay in the shower all the time but maybe if I start taking one just before bed it might help me sleep. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Hi Twoey, I must say first of all that I am sorry to hear of the constant pain you have to deal with. In relation to dealing with the pain I think I read somewhere that there is a cayenne ointment/rub which does well in alleviating pain. I really do not remember well but the ointment was either for pain and stimulation or one or the other. My knowledge of diabetes also indicates that the pain/sensitivity you are experiencing in your fingers may indeed be related to diabetes. As one disease sometimes mimic another a proper diagnosis is your best bet. I hope you will be able to garner some useful information from the answers you receive from this discussion.

I think you should find a way to got to the doctor. Find a clinic or something. Last year i went for a check up. I have lots of unexplained pain in my feet too. Sometimes it will hurt when im trying to slide my foot into a shoe. I asked the doc to check out why this is happening. Im not diebetic. He tested that. He didnt give me much of an answer. He did ask when am i gonna get some real insurance and told me to loose weight. He was relly a poor doc in my opinion.

Oh yea, i also asked him to check this painful thing that has been hurting my thumb for the last 5-6 yrs. He pulled a nial clipper outta his pocket and told me he could take care of it right there and go buy wart med. Ive tried that procudre already and its still there. When i hit it the wrong way it hurts to the bone. Like turning a key. Its on my right thumb and im right handed.

Yes I believe the pain in your fingertips is connected to the diabetes. You really need to get to a doctor about your feet. The sooner the better. I had an aunt who lost her leg due to diabetes. You really can't afford to waste time with this. That constant pain is not a good sign at all. Maybe if you try 800mg of Ibuprofen or Aleve that will help you with the pain but please get to the doctors as soon as possible.

I am working on going to the doctors next week since the pain is getting so bad and I'm going to start trying an Ibuprofen at night to help me sleep. Perhaps it's all connected with the dizziness and headaches I've been getting as well. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

The pain and fingertip sensitive can be linked to type two diabeties. Are you keeping your sugars under control? Are you eating properally or do you often "cheet" on your diabeties recommended diet? If you do then that could be part of your problem. If you don't maintain tight control of your blood sugar levels, your body will react accordingly, attacking your muscles and what not because its going for healthy fats and protains instead of burning sugar for fuel. too much can cause muscle weekness, sometimes swelling and pain. Don't put off seeing a doctor. You can walk into any ER, and get treated without regards to any insurance you may or may not have. So you'll get billed, but you would have been treated first.

I had no idea! Thank goodness it is getting warm weather so you don't have to wear shoes if you don't have to. Or use a blanket. I am wondering if Diabetis is your only problem. I hope you will go to www.bioinnovations.net and read up on the natural things that can help with pain and diabetis. Good books. Not a waste of time. Time is wasting though! Sooner you get with the right medicines the better.

GO to the emergency room and demand treatment. You might have to be admitted until they get the swelling down. Do it now. Don't wait. You are way past the point were compression socks will help. You are passed the home remidy poinit. You need medical care and need it now.

Go visit your doctor and at the same time check the food your taking in. I experienced pain on my toes sometimes especially when I eat potato and tomato or any food with uric acid but what I do to manage this is by extracting the juice of bitter melon and drink a cup of it once a day.

I'm so sorry to hear you are having all these problems with your feet! When your feet hurt, you hurt all over pretty much, don't you? I'm not diabetic but I know what it's like to have painful feet. My feet hurt in my ankles a lot, in the front part of my feet as well as in the achilles tendon. I wish I could help you. Maybe some of these other mylotters can. I hope you can get some help asap and I hope you won't end up losing your feet. Do you have to have your toenails trimmed by a nurse? The reason why I was asking is because I have worked in a nursing home as a nurse's aide and we were told not to trim the patient's toenails if he/she were diabetic. That had to be done by a nurse. Kathy.
