Eating Fruits only - a good diet or not?

I have a friend who started her diet with just eating fruits (oranges and apples). I don't think it is a good idea to stick to just those two fruits. I did tell her that it will be better if she tries other fruits and get into vegetables as well so that she gets all the nutrients she needs. What do you suggest about this? What kind of diet works for you?

No diet works for me...hahaha! But just eating fruits is not good either. Yes, vegetables are good and you can eat meats as long as they are not fried. Lessen carbohydrates such as rice and breads. Take fibrous foods as well.

I did try and do a diet once... but unfortunately when something happens in the office or my husband and I have a fight, I always turn to food which kind of breaks my diet mode. However, as much as possible I try to eat healthy because I know that my body will not be able to hold all the sweets that I eat and the unhealthy food (like fried food) that I take. I still have to try and work on doing some exercise because that is a major problem for me.

Oh gosh! Do you mean your friend is only eating two kinds of fruit and nothing else? That sounds sooo unhealthy. Our bodies need protein to stay strong, like from beans or fish or chicken. Also we need vitamins and minerals, like maybe from grains, vegetables, and maybe yogurt or cheese. Anyway, even if you're on a diet, who wants to live totally without ice cream?

Hi Alice! I know I did tell my friend about it but she tells me that she does not fancy any other fruits except for the two. I recommended that she should at least break her diet and have her 'fun food' so that she will not get bored with it. Dieting should never be torture... rather you should be able to experiment food and make it healthy.

Eating fruits is a healthy choice because it is considered as one of the healthiest food but eating only oranges and apples is not a good idea. You are correct in telling her to eat other fruits as well so that she will also get other nutrients that are not present in apples and oranges. We need to eat variety of fruits especially the bright colored ones as they say the darker the color the more nutrients you will get. This goes the same with vegetables which your friend should also be eating as part of her diet.

Er, where is she getting her protein requirement from? A pure fruit diet doesn't sound very healthy.

Fruits generally has high nutrition value. Each fruit has its own vitamins which will can be used to cure certain infections. The color of the fruit is very important as its skin is rich in nutrition. So eating only fruits will make a healthy living.

Eating fruits is very good in our body but we cant have an all fruits diet because we need the protein of rice and meat to have enough energy needed by our body. I used to do an all fruits diet, and I was just end up fainting because though im eating fruits, I got easily hungry because fruits are basically made of water and not pure solid.

Although fruits are very nutritious, but still you cannot get from them alone all the things that your body needs to stay healthy. You should eat a balanced diet More of fruits and vegetables and less of fats and red meat. You have to eat foods that are rich in protein and carbohydrates. (^_^)

i dont think that is a better way to keep health or lose weight. sometimes it is no use to eat just a little . althrough eating different kinds of friuts is still not a good methord. i believe keep eating everything average ( fruits .meat.vege) will be fine. i got a methord from a expert says eat meats every day will lose weight very quickly. but i dont think this way can work. and i try it as well and the result is i becaome fatter finnally.

hi funkeyguhl, sorry but i don't think eating fruits alone will be good for her or for anyone. a balanced diet should include grains/rice and alternatives, meat and alternatives and vegetables and fruits as well as to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water each day. take small servings each time and choose food which are low in fat and sugar.

I don't agree that eating fruits alone is a good diet. It's not balanced and would not give you all the nutrients you need for your body. Although fruits specifically oranges and apples can benefit our bodies, still we need other kind of food like vegetables and meat to sustain us with good health. Eat balanced and live healthily!

eating oranges and apples only is a bad diet. they are right our bodies needs different kinds of foods that provides carbo, protien, vitamins and minerals. it will be better if she eats vegetables as well more than fruits

Hi funkey, Fruit diet? It is good for cleansing. Fiber is good. Once in a while it is great for the body to detoxify the waste we have accumulated from unhealthy food intake. Doesn't mean she have to eat orange and apple only the whole month. Fruit diet is good only for 2days. Have a great day. :)

This is a very unhealthy diet. Your body needs all different sorts of nutrient to get the appropriate amount of vitamins and minerals necessary for good health. She needs to add other types of fruit and veggies into her diet. With a strict fruit and veggie diet, she will not be getting the protein that she needs. She should add beans and rice to her diet and some sort of dairy product for calcium which is very important for females.

I believe a balanced meal is a complete with all the needed nutrients the body needs from all the food groups.I think your friend may be missing out on some nutrients her body needs.she should eat vegetables and other fruits.she should also eat food rich in protein, good fats, calcium, and carbohydrates.she should also take vitamin and mineral supplements.

Fruits are good for you, but if you ONLY eat fruits, it's not so great for you. Your body needs nutrients (protein, omega 3 fats, minerals and some carbs) that fruits are not rich in, and it's important to get those nutrients from other sources.

Eating fruits alone is no way a good diet for anyone...We have to eat fruits along with vegetables..fruits make the skin look like shining..it is more healthy...but eating fruits alone is not good...and for me i don't stick to a routine diet and all..I just eat what my mom prepares..and eat fruits daily...

Oranges and apples only is wrong. The body needs: carbohydrates, fats, and protein. Your friend's body WILL NOT function WELL/ EFFECTIVE. Your friend should do this at least: Corn,Soy,and fruits. - this is if s/he doesn't want to add fish or meat in her diet. My diet: rice, chicken ( no skin and fat) , beef(not too often), fish (very often), vegetables, soy and fruits. I tend to eat most during lunch. Breakfast sometimes is missed. But, I have a heavy dinner. I am currently 135 lbs with a height of 5'10". :)
