Some day i want to go on vacation to Iceland. My grandparents has been there, and i saw some impressive pictures from their holiday. It's very beautyfull up there. Have some of you ever tried to visit Iceland? How was it, and can you recommend it? If you havent, do you think you would ever try it?

I would certainly go to Iceland. They have erupting volcanoes, and giant glaciers. Also, I read that they have troll crossings on some of their roads. They cannot possibly be serious about that! I heard that there are no trees at all there though, that it's too cold for them. Do you know if there are trees in Iceland?

I've heard that the vikings long time ago lived there because there was so many trees, but its hard to grow new ones, so the vikings destroyed the trees on Iceland, so its true - there is almost no trees in Iceland. But i dont think there is trolls either.

There's been some quite hefty discussions about trees on Iceland actually. Some mean that there never were a lot of trees there, some mean that the country was covered in trees. What's certain is that it has never been forest like the ones in mainland Europe, no forest with big evergreens or trees with leaves like oak. The native forest that are left (mainly Thorsmörk) are mainly birch, and not really very big birches either. As for trolls and ghosts, they're all over the island! :-)

Haha :-) I have heard that the vikings destroyd them, and they couldnt plant new ones, because the seeds just would blow away.

I've been to Iceland 3 times, one time on language course, one time just to go there and one time on a musical seminar. The first time I stayed for 5 weeks, 4 weeks in Reykjavik and 1 one week travelling around. Afterwards I took the boat down to the Faroes, Shetland and Orkney before I went back home to Norway. I think Iceland's really great. The nature's totally different, and the houses are a bit different too. The people are friendly, most of them talk good English (Icelandic is quite difficult :-) ) The last time I was there, I rented a car before the seminar started and drove a bit around, exploring the country. As long as you stay on the coast on the main roads, driving is easy, but once you start driving in the inland or on small roads you really need a 4 wheel drive SUV. Or something similar, especially if you go on one of the roads that crosses all the rivers :-)
