Getting Rid of Books

I just went through my over-crowded bookshelf and picked out at least 30 books that I'm going to give to Half Price Books. It made me kinda sad, because I loved these books when I was in middle school and I really hate getting rid of books that I like. Since I haven't got a lot of space for books anymore and I hadn't read them in forever, I decided it would be best to let someone else enjoy them. So how often do you part with your books? What do you do with the books that you get rid of?

it is really hard to part with books that i love. i think i've never given away or sold any of the books i love. i only give away those that i know i'll not read again. hope in the future, when my book collection becomes too much, i'd earn enough to have a spare room in the house and convert it into a library/study. and hope i'll never have to part with those books.

I'm hoping that I can have a library in my house one day too. Of course right now, I don't have a house. :( I have a very small room to live in and not a lot of space for a new bookshelf, so I decided to get rid of some of the books I knew I would never read again. I usually don't re-read books, but there are some that I still want to keep copies of.

Hi, I find it terribly hard to give away books that I love so much, except for study and text books. Once I'm done with these, and am very sure that they are not required for future reference or whatever purposes, I will pack them up and give them away (charity or recyclers). As for my beloved fiction collection, I will not give them away...if there's no more space, most probably I'll either store them in boxes, or buy more shelves.

I get rid of textbooks pretty quick too. I don't have a lot of space for books where I'm currently living, and no space for a new bookshelf! I'd like to be able to get my own library when I finally get my own house, but that'll have to wait for awhile. There are lots of books in my fiction collection that I insist I will NEVER part with, but the twenty or so that I just got rid of didn't seem to serve anymore purpose. I loved them when I was younger, and I still loved them, but I didn't think I should keep them.

i collect alot of books, and sometimes i don't like to part with them, but i think half priced books is a good start let someone else enjoy them, sometime i will donate them to churches or other organizations, good will is good too.

I sometimes donate books to other organizations too. It depends on what the books are and whether there are any donation drives running in a church or school I know of.

I have given away a lot of my old books. I usually ask my family or my friends if they want some of them, and the rest of the books I donate to charity. I have also tried to sell some of my old books, but that wasn't easy at all, because I couldn't find a place that wanted to buy them. Eventually I gave up and decided to donate them to charity instead. I like to go through all my books every once in while so that I can find the ones that I don't use anymore and the ones I don't want to read again. That way someone else can enjoy my old books.

hi allyoftherain, well it happens to everyone that there is a time when we hate the books and want to kick them away. but as we grow up and try to remember the good times we had in school life the books remind us of those enjoyed moments and then we start loving those books

lol, well I certainly don't hate the books I just got rid of. I don't keep books that I hate for more than a day after I finish them. I still love the books, but I don't think that I should keep them. I love them the most when I was in middle school and now they're just kinda sitting in my bookshelf doing nothing. They should be enjoyed by other middle school girls now.

during my elementary and highschool days, I gave my book away to younger cousins and sold then my parents sold the rest. My college textbooks are still with me and I have no intention of selling them because they will come in handy one of these days. As for my fiction books, I NEVER sell or give them away. I like to have my own private library someday, and I am starting to collect books now.

It's very hard to part with books if you are a book lover. I have some good collections of the bestsellers of Grisham, Sheldon, Dan Brown, Ludlum, And many other thriller bestsellers but my brothers and cousins usually borrow them without returning. Some of my left collections are already brown in color but i cannot seem to part with them. As for the other books that I don't like too much, I often give them away to neighbors or anyone who wants the books.

its always difficult to let go of the special things you have... ^_^ sometimes, i even argue with myself if it's really a good idea to give up or not... ^_^
