I'm trying out a transcription job and oh my gosh! It's not that easy. I could well post 10 discussions in mylot straight than to have to listen to those thick accents and whispers! I could definitely take my hats off to those who are doing this professionally. I can't imagine myself having the patience to deal with this, and I'm talking about 6mins of transcription! Whew! What are your views on those people who transcribe things. What I mean is meetings and discussions, not just a simple recording of a single individual who stresses and can really speak well. I mean those deep voices, thick accents and whispering or mumbling! Whew!!!

Hey, is it a homebased transcription job? I was a medical transcriptionist before; however, they are easier to transcribe because of their professional tone. If it is general, then the only problem you will have is their accents. Just follow the preference of the customer with regards to unclear portions and you will be okay.

Yeah it's a home-based one but I guess these were something that couldn't really be transcribed easily because it's all mumbles, with wind sounds and people were talking fast and were in a group.

I've also tried applying for a freelance general transcription job. I though it was going to be easy, just listening to phone conversations and typing what's heard. That was what I thought. But when I took the test to qualify for the job, i though it was impossible to pass it. The conversations were so hard to comprehend. The accents are too strong. A lot of people talking at once, and they sound like they're murmuring. Didn't understand a single word.

Oh gosh! That was what I felt. I absolutely wasn't able to submit it. The first few lines was okay, but then they started talking all at once - they just lost me there.

I think Transcribers have to be the worlds greatest listeners. There are just some jobs that people do in this world that take a lot of natural ability. Transcribing is one such job. I commend anyone on having the mental toughness to even attempt documenting each and every word someone else has to say. It seems that nowadays, enunciation is optional to most people(making this field even tougher than ever before.).

Oh yeah, it's really a job for the world's greatest listeners. As for the enunciation, whew tell me about it, they forget the right tenses, short cut everything, they even sometimes forget the pause or they simply invent words!

I feel its a difficult job.A you said trying to decipher those accents and whispers. What I've heard is there is a bit of hostility when they hear the person taking the call doesn't have the same accent as the person making the call.Add to this the odd hours. All in all a difficult job especially the hours spent in neutralizing the accent to be presentable.

Yes i agree with you. I used to try other online jobs, did it for a while and convinced myself that my patience and perseverance will someday benefit me.Until i felt that i wasn't working smartly. You will just to do some simple calculation, the points earned versus time spent and time spent versus enjoyment. I can say that so far im very satisfied with what im doing here in myLot, points earned well, time spent wisely so far and i am enjoying what im doing here.Although finding a site which would make me a $10,000 richer in one year would be good idea.haha (^_^)

You can say that laydee. It's not an easy job and not for everybody. You have to have patience and keen hearing. I was a medical transcriptionist for 4 years and 1 year as a medical editor. I have tried some general transcription and I find it harder than medical transcription although the accents are almost the same. The thing I find hard with general transcription is when their voices tend to overlap one another. :)
