I have very delicate taste buds and have a sensitive smell. So even if i am hungry I like to smell first the food to make sure it is of good quality and not near to be spoil that is in front of me like if it have a good aromas and not just concentrate on the beautiful intricate arrangement of food to make sure it is of good quality and not near to be spoil. It has something to do with the exquisite taste, flavor and with the way it is arrange on the platter. Well, in compare to my other family member they are not quite choosy as long as the food is edible they would eat not bothering to smell the food first just like I do but not really the way that i have to sniff the food nearest to my nostrils. Anyway, how about you, when you eat your food whether home cook or bought from the outside or eating in a restaurant or fast food. What are your eating behaviors per observation? As some notice first the nice food, with its look, quantity, and best exemplify by culinary arrangement makes the food in display more attractive and delectable. How about you, when you choose a food or eat your food. What are the first things you do? Do you smell it first, check it, or just eat it immediately to taste its flavor? What your eating style? kindly shares your thoughts. Thanks. 4-19-10 9:07

It depends o my mood if I am really hungry I never mind the smell i just eat in an instant while if I doubt the sources of my food. I would check it first, smell then taste a portion afterward to know if it still edible or not.

It depends on what I'm eating. If it's fruit, I can't help but smell it without even trying to take a whiff. if it's onions, same thing. if it's spinach, I rather hold my nose and find a way to survive. the dreaded ordeal.

Its a bad habbit to smell the food before eating it. If its a delicious food then the aroma of the food automatically arises from it. so there is no need to smell it. Moreover there are chances of any infections to be transfered if one who is smelling the foods are suffering from any diseases.

hi earnin hobby, I never sniff all the food that is serves in the table especially in a party ansd i only smell the food when i bite a portion tasting it and if I find it spoiled it is then I refuse to eat. i know that it would be insulting to smell all the food and is unethical. Most of the times i do smell the food if i am not so familiar with the ingredients being used for precautionary measures.thanks

I seldom smell the food before taste it, sometimes by looking with the appearance is enough for me to decide what i can eat and fits with my stomach So it's not a problem for me to eat home cook, and bought foods outside, unless i'm already taste it before and it taste bad

hi maximilian, That may be right as long as you trust the sources of your food for a long time it gives you more satisfaction then be it. But it also good to check yuor food and its sources first before swallowing all the pieces especially if the food is bought in a unknown stalls just to be safer on your side and avoid being a victim of food poisoning. Sometimes the appearance of food is also deceiving and one need to taste it first then smell whatever you prefer to make sure the food is not spoil yet. Thanks for your responses.

I did not used to smell the food I just look at it then eat. Tasting for me is better than smelling. Through tasting you know the food is new or not. When I taste it good I will eat more than the other foods. So I eat right away and find out what it taste for me.

hi geniuustiger, It also better but I really prefer to use my sense of smell most of the times, since it trigger some interest in my mind to eat more when i smell the aromas of food it makes me aware that i need food to fill up my appetite. Tasting and smelling food inspires and it affects my moods so it is very important for me the smell is distinctive and i could identify with the ingredients being use properly blended to satisfy even those with delicate taste buds. While you are more of a taster so long as you erase any doubt on any food you eat as long as it is safe to eat and you trust the cook, then it is also good whatever you prefer as long as you felt satisfy which matter msot. thanks for your responses.

Yes I will. And I definitely smell my food first if I suspected or is in doubt if they are still edible. But other occasions, I will smell them to give my brain a signal on the food taste. But if I am really very hungry, I will skip this steps because I don't care about the taste anymore and want to satisfy my appetite first.

other's make a habit for them to smell first the food before tasting it. but for me, what is important is the taste. i'm not judge easily the food whether it is delicious or not through the smell, but what important is the taste, unless if the food is stock from the refrigerator i smell it just to check if it is ok. or not spoiling.

hi cherwin, That very true but mostly if the food smell great it also means sometimes it also taste great. And by smell of the food it entice the appetite to ask for more food to eat as it makes the food more interesting. Their also times when the food smell good but taste bland. Yeah, the spoil food is the worst of all and just for precaution it is really necessary to smell the food whether is already cook or raw that is about to cook for keeping the family healthy and for prevention of food poisoning. thanks for your responses.

hi caliya, Good for you as you are not so sensitive and have a build a trust with the food being offer at the restaurant of your choose. Same with me when it comes to leftover food I really check and smell it first. Since, I also tend to avoid being victim of food poisoning it more expensive to be hospitalized than being delicate at all. thanks for your responses.

i usually not so fussy about the smell of my food and just eat it straight away... unless if it smells really bad... then i will know straight away that the food had turned bad and i won't eat it... otherwise, i'm not so sensitive with the smell of my food and i'm fine... take care and have a nice day...

hi lingli, That would be no problem as long as you develop trust in the food establishment and you know they have the following credentials duly pass the health and sanitary inspection. So far one could also be deceived as some food really look good but when you taste it is nasty so their is also need to be careful for every food that one eat in order to avoid being the victim of food poisoning. Thanks.

I dont smell the food as I can get the aromas of the food straight through my nose, smelling food in others house or in restaurant is not a good table manner. When I am hungry I dont bother about the colour or aroma or taste of the food.

hi samson, I only do the smelling things when i really doubt the food that is serve on me, especially if it appear spoil, it taste bad or when i smell something like the food is not cook properly or a little raw or sort of something which makes me avoid eating it. I see to it that the food i eat does not only appear delicious but must be smelling good and taste great and the last but not the list it should be prepare hygienically by the food staff. I think it is best to be careful on what we eat than suffer the consequences of food poisoning and cost of hospitalization when one fall as victim. So it is a must for me to take a bite not to engulf all the food in an instant since it is better than eating all the stuff then feel sorry for eating something when one fail to notice it defect. thanks for your responses.

Oh Yes, I like to smell all food before I cook it - not so much before I eat it, because I would have already smelled it when it was raw. It is the way I find out if the food it good or not. I once ate some food that had gone off and had food poisoning, so I tend to be particularly careful these days. _Derek

hi derek, Well, definitely as you cook you could smell what your coking and that very inspiring to know as one add each ingredients. The outcomes would be very fantastic as you could see in your own eyes how the food takes its shapes from being simple to simply great tasting for everyone to enjoy. And you could rest assure and control all the additives and others ingredients to either minimize or maximize its flavor according to your tastes. it is best to remain cautious than felt sorry afterward for neglecting food precautionary measures. Thanks for your responses.

Dear friend, At times I do smell the food before I eat. There are also times I do eat food and while that I could get that sense of its smell too. Yes good quality of food is to prefered always more than its taste, arrangements etc.

hi shamrack, It is alright to smell the food that enter in our mouth, for insurance that anything one eat pass quality control and even if they pass on the kitchen. The main things to appreciate the outcome of cooking is the customer itself so the final say goes to the restaurant or fastfood client if one is satisfy with the services it definitely a marketing strategy which are good to last since the customer would become loyal and would comeback to eat again. thanks for your responses.

Um... I had never thought about that before, but I think that usually I don't smell it before eating it unless is something that I haven't eaten before, as the smell tells you a lot about the taste usually. If something looks really delicious I can't bother to smell it, as I want to eat it now

Usually that is the natural reaction to taste first then smelling would just comes out naturally. It may be good to eat if you're really very hungry unless you know the establishment is clean and the food is fresh then their is no doubt on it. usually one could smell the aromas of food even in a distance and that incites the appetite to ask for more serving especially if it does not only look good outside but also tastes great. thanks for your responses.

I always smell my food first. I don't necessarily bring it up to my nose for a specific sniff, but I'll smell it as I go along cooking or whatever. ^-^ I've been told that smell is more effective to our senses that actual taste when it comes to food and eating.

hi olisaur, lol..definitely it would be insulting to the chef if one sniff all the food which are being serve n the table. maybe a little bite would do and by tasting a portion one could determine if the food is still fresh or in the process of being spoil. For protection and for health benefit it is a must for me to smell the food before one dare to eat any food since it is one way to protect self against food poisoning. It may sounds a little silly for some people but if they already know the benefit it not a silly things anymore. It is better to remain cautious than felt sorry later when one eat without smelling it could be dangerous afterward when one realize it is a spoil food their would be no turning back to make the food comes out in the mouth. thanks for your responses.
