It is hard to help without knowing a price range or the room you have available. Equipment can take up a lot of money and space. Also it depends on what you want to do. For example this was created with just 1 light, that is it.And a basic light with the swivel heads. Nothing else. http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=505197861&albumID=173591&imageID=8193633 I have others just taken with 1 reflector, 1 light. There are strobes, softboxes, umbrellas, beauty dishes, and so much more. You just have to figure out what your need to serve your purposes. It might seem overwhelming but just do some research on each individual light piece, and what each purpose does for each and go from there. Also ask yourself this, "Do I need this particular lighting equipment or can I substitute it for something else?" Instead of using "studio reflectors" I use foam core. Does the same job.
