If somebody said what is anger? Then you go to the bible dictionary and search about anger...and you will answer. If somebody said what is sin then you will see dictionary.. and you will define. Is there anything you know by yourself? Do you have your own dictionary of life? Can you define something by yourself, from your mind.

and I think you owe kalav an apology, you cannot keep insulting people and not be told off by someone. not to mention that while you seem to think you are some authority, you use very poor grammar. got no is really awful grammar.

Actually i usually read the Bible as a genuine history recounts, sometimes, however, i may have a try to find a word in it and to find what the book say about it.

vine go get you own dictionary and look up inane discussions as this one really takes the cake and the pie and anything else. Of course I can define myself by myself what an idiotic thing to ask? From my mind, you act as if you do not think very many of mylotters can think for ourselves. These discussions border all the time on insulting. Do you have your own dictionary of life? you ask all these weird questions but you seem afraid to give your own answer. I can define you a pesky mylotter who makes a zillion discussions a day and has several deleted all the time. You break mylot rules and thumb your nose at others here.grow up; you are acting childish,.

vine your words are not hurting me, just showing you for what you are, you are not child like, you are just bloody mean.and for your information childish has nothing to do with child like. You just proved by what you just said that you too belong to the third group, the worst group. so again grow up. My mind says you also deceive yourself.

They are holy books. They can be used as dictionary, in a way, if they have their own definition on their terms.

i guess there is a possibility to define something by urself from ur own mind.. but not always possible to just use things such as the bible etc. to find answeres. sometimes we just have to live our lives and sometimes when we live our lives we end up finding out the answers on our own.

I ABSOLUTELY define things by not only my own mind but my lifes experience..and I have to say that ppl who constantly go to or refer to their holy book for answers and to pretty much give them the reply they should use drive me nuts..YES by all means IMO use your holy book as a GUIDE in your life should you feel the need BUT for the love of Pete whoever the hell he is THINK FOR YOURSELF!!

We can define something that we know about it. However God created us here and set role for us. We have to do what we are supposed to do here, that is what Quran explains, so that is not just a dictionary its a complete way of life, a complete instruction manual for life. Peace.

The bible is not a dictionary in my opinion. It is a book of stories that are able to teach us about the history of our religion and give us something to believe in. However, I don't think that you could choose a book from the bible and use that as a way of defining something. The bible, in my opinion, is a great way of illustrating something, but it is not a way of defining it. You need to have a basic knowledge of what it is before you are able to use the bible to delve deeper into the matter.

i think we need some dictionary just like bible. if we keep define things by ourself but not a guide-handbook, we will change more and more self-centeredness, and that is wrong. In fact i think we should keep the "dictionary" in our mind, so that we can do every daily things along with that. but what a shame, i just turn to bible when sunday is coming....

no i don't do that, i see the Bible as a dictionary for life issues not for words or grammar. So why should i open the bible when someone ask for the meaning of a word, that's absurd

I can't say i have my own dictionary. or even a particular book where i would see the answers. I have my own understanding of things but sometimes others would not understand it. I have my own intuition and I use it freely. There are certain norms or guidelines that we have to follow. But that doesn't mean that i would be agreeing to them. I guess I'm a follower and sometimes not. It all depends. =)

The question, was, Is Bible/Gita/Kuran (the right word is Quran, read: kuur aan) your dictionary. Quran or other holy books that related with religions, is a guide book of life, it is not book of science but book of sign. I'm a moslem, and Quran is moslem's religion book, inside the Quran there are so many thing about rules of life that we can read such as rules of marriage, inheritance, and more. And regards to your question, the answer is simple as your question, and the answer is: we are not perfectly mastering all of knowledge in our mind. So we need guidance, you can ask people or books as your guidance. Even an ph.d or a professor need book to find a definition or answer. Or sometime, somehow, people can describe something by him/herself, it is just a matter with time or condition or depends on our understanding. I hope you can understand with my simple bad english :)

I have my own dictionary and my mommy can prove that.. lol =D I dun have any religion and thus my definition of life, comes from myself, rather than depending on those books.. For those written and recorded in them, are not real, at least to me.. Everybody's life are different, and the ple we meet are different.. as such, there will be a vast difference in life experience.. WHatever is written in those dictionary are plain reference, and how many of us can really follow it thru?? haha =D

for a common people we could use the common dictionary to find and give them the meaning of a word. but to christians we could always use the bible which has everything. but words are not seen from the bible, but the thoughts of a phrase not of a word.

there are many things which you learn from life. and all the things in the books are not as it is as they are defined. i have many words and their meaning. but the meaning of them in life for me is changed. as true people get the good result. but now i have seen that at every place if you follow truth , you will have lesser friends and will have lesser growth.

Thanks vine88 for the good discussion topic. In my opinion Bible, Gita, Koran, Tipitakas (of Buddha) or any other scripture is a result of experiences of highly evolved people. Theses were people with highly developed meditative metal disposition and purity of heart. It is wrong to think that human beings are just another variety of animals, even if this idea is widespread presently. Human beings are full of potential: more than 99% of it is hardly utilized or manifested largely due to faulty belief system of people in the present time. Just being rich, famous or acquiring material wealth does make anyone an evolved human being. You will actually understand the true meanings of the words written in the holy scriptures only if you know the art of looking inside you. Otherwise, you will remain only with the superficial meaning written in the current dictionaries. If you want to learn the art of looking inside you, fortunately there is a simple technique called Vipassana Meditation which is available worldwide. Vipassana is an ancient word meaning "seeing reality as it is and not as you want it to be". It is free to learn but you have to join a 10 day residential course. Even if you don't believe in books, scriptures, in god or spirit you can still learn it because it is totally scientific. You can explore about Vipassana and course schedule at dhamma.org. Words have really no meanings on their own -- you give them meanings and the best meaning only comes from within you. Thanks for the good topic.

Quite interesting question. Literally I knew what anger means. I think there's no sense going or scanning your dictionary. Maybe you mean if someone is angry, he/she should think as many times to hold his/her anger. Or maybe he/she should sit down and read the Bible so to guide his/her emotion. If somebody ask me the meaning of the word sin, well I would say what did that person do, what sin he/she committed. By identifying the sin, you'll know where to turn to: to a friend, to God or to the authorities. Yes I have my own dictionary of life and I use it with the help of the dictionary of man and the Bible of course. What matters most is: as long as I don't hurt someone, I feel I am satisfied with my own dictionary.
