Have you ever had a goal in life and realize that it was totally pointless?

I have been thinking about my goals before and I realized that my previous goals in life were totally pointless. I don't know about you but before I really had an urge to be somebody. I didn't want to be an ordinary person in the crowd. I wanted to stand out and be someone special. Now when I look back at it I realized that I was just too immature to dream about those things. I realized that in order to enjoy life you must learn to appreciate the simple things in life. I was too focused in my goal before that I failed to enjoy the simple things in my life. I just realize lately that trying to become special is only temporary. If ever I achieve that goal I will still be forgotten a few years after I am gone. That is why I now have a new goal in my life. My goal now is a more practical approach in life. I work hard in order to enjoy the things in my life now. I shouldn't be too much focused in becoming special cause I will only waste away my life with that. I never thought that the realization I had last year which caused my depression was also the reason why I am going to enjoy my life today.

Hi Andyvil! There is nothing wrong in setting goals and striving to achieve it... Depression and discontentment happens when we tend to be super focus on that goal... like what you just said, you have forgotten to appreaciate the smallest things in your life-- and those small things and people around us are actually, most of the time, would give us the real happiness... Well what good is for a man to gain popularity, richness if inside he feels empty? If he cannot afford to stop working and enjoy at least once a week with his family and friends? When his/ her mind is too crowded with work and stress in transformation of his goal to reality... Like I said, it is just good to set goals and have big ambition but, we should not forget to stop and appreciate the things that we have now... the people who stays with us and most especially to thank God for blessing us always. Have a nice day Andyvil!

I agree with you lovelyn. That is how I view my life right now. I am appreciating more the gifts I have in life and I am not focusing all of my attention to goals which seemed to be pointless. What matters for me is being happy with my life.

All we need to learn is how to balance things...understand what matter most to us and what would make us really happy. We don't need to be to relaxed, responsibilities still matter but never stress ourselves so much up to the point that we are getting too obsesse with that goal... if so that would definitely lead to disappointment, stress and unhappy life. Good day Andyvil!

hi andyvil well yes and no really as I still have this goal in spite of now being a senior citizen of getting my writing published but now after a lifetime of learning not to set your goals as high as the moon, I would be satisfied to have some short stories published, I may be 83 but I love to write and still have some talent for it. So now my goal is smaller but I still have one and may try to accomplish it this time around. others as old as me have made some great successes so why not me too. It is much easier to accomplish a small goal than a huge one. So I still have a dream left.

That is exactly what I am doing right now Hatley. I would rather have smaller goals and achieve them one by one then try and reach for the moon. In that way I won't pressure myself too much and still have time to enjoy the good things that God has given me.

You mean like TV star or something like that?Or just a wish not to be an ordinary person?I think this shouldn't be anyone's goal in life. The truth is that each and everyone of us can be special for someone.I have friends who are special for me.They don't have to be famous so that I could love them and appreciate them.We should simply enjoy being what we are.Feel comfortable with it.I'm glad you're on the right path.

Hello Silvercoin. I wasn't aiming on becoming a star. I was aiming on becoming extraordinary in my profession. I soon realized that I was just trying too hard to the point that I didn't enjoy my profession anymore. Unlike now, I am currently happy with what I am doing. I don't need to push my self that much to try and achieve something that has bothered me before. All I need to do is enjoy my work and the output of my work will turn out ok.

As far as I am concerned, I think I usuall have a goal in my daily life, which can help me a lot in my way to succeed. I do not want to live a life with out goals, if I have a goal in my life, I think I can try my bets to manage my life. It is so necessary one for me.

Not really, what i mean is when i set something like a goal i make sure that this goal is going to be worth it no matter what. Because i wont spend my time doing something worthless for me. I believe that if theres something that you want then you need to work hard for it.Unless you don know what is it that you really want .

A goal I had in life was to become a journalist. It was a goal that I had set up when I was trying to figure out what it is I want to do with my life, but soon realised that was not what I wanted to do, and therefore I wasted alot of time trying to accomplish something that I really didn't want to do, and the sad part about that is that there were other unrealistic or pointless goals that I wanted to achieve as well. I wanted to be an architect, lawyer, teacher, singer you name it I probably wanted to be that. However I am aiming to be a teacher.

Yes, everything has a reason. But, believe me, you are special just the way you are. You don't need to prove it. Just be yourself and enjoy life. Sounds to me like you are doing quite well. Good for you!

I have pretty much drifted through life without a goal, which is not much better...
