The reason I ask because I used to think that I am one very close to it, if not one. But one fine day, I realised that I actually did not even know how to take a screen shot! Also, I still do not know the basics like how to generate RSS feed or html codes or what's so special about 3G phone! So, how tech savvy you are? Share a simple internet stuff that I do not know.

To a certain extent, yes. I can help my neighbor figure out issues with his computer and long as it is minor. Minor means as long as it don't do something like crash. Then he has to take it to someone with a little bit on knowhow besides me. I do have a Iphone, but I'm still learning with it. I can use the internet a little with it, but I'd rather just get on my computer and be on the internet. Because, it still seems to be easier doing it that way. And, to a certain extent, I'm teaching my boyfriend a little bit about computers. Enough so he can run one.

Hi mimpi! I would not consider myself fully tech savvy. However, one thing is for sure, whatever comes my way, I am always willing to learn. Many years ago, when there were no computers in our offices, I would use electronic type-writing machines for getting the job done. When computers were introduced, I learnt it fast and would go for any training to learn more and more, would ask my colleagues (who were younger and tech savvy)to know the nitty gritty of computers etc. I do not hesitate to ask even my kids, if they can tell me a thing or two (new things) about computers or mobile. I think our participation in various discussions here on mylot and at others sites/platforms has helped us learn many new technical things, which were not known to us. I am like you and I do not think I can share any special or simple internet stuff which I know and you are not aware about. Have a great day! Deepak

I know how eager you are to learn new stuffs and I really appreciate. Children these days are so fast and technically advanced that even a3 year old can teach you computers! My niece, when 2 years, could actually scroll the mouse and hover over the snaps! And yes, networking sites are just amazing. They help us learn stuffs.

I wish that fire and eagerness to learn should ever remain 'alive' in me. The moment I feel I have learnt enough, my growth may stop, I feel.

What are generating RSS feed or html codes or 3G Mimpi? Why do you want me to feel so low my friend?

Hi Mimpi! I am said to be tech savvy for the simple reason that I am not averse to it and for a person who started late , I have made some attempts to learn some simple basic stuff like MSword, have slowly improved my typing speed from being single fingered ,,and I have been searching for some opportunitures and making some money on the net.But there it ends/ All that you have mentioned is new to me and I am looking forward to reading the other responses to thsi interesting discussion.

Hey Kala! coming to typing 10 years and plus I still use my middle right finger to type and that has been an amusing thing for the onlookers but that's how it works for me.

I'm not into having all the latest tech gadgets, so I'm probably not as tech savvy as most people my age and younger. I know how to maintain and fix problems with my computer, but you don't exactly need a degree in computer science for that, the help menus are fine. I can use html code, but I had to be taught how to do it first. As for screen shots, had to be taught that too, but I still don't know about taking video of the screen. I do have a 3G phone, but that's because the phone company was insistant on upgrading the one I had (we needed to renew our contracts any way). I have to say though, it is my main camera more than a phone though.

You do not need a degree in Computer Science Dear - you are already so updated. think, it's just a matter of being able to fix the little daily problems that we face. I am pretty much interested to know new stuffs just for the sake of learning new things.

I do consider myself somewhat tech savvy, although more and more I'm finding that there are so many new things coming out that I must learn! So I think technology can definitely get the best of me sometimes! (I do know how to take a screenshot, though - LOL!) As far as the 3G phones, I didn't realize what they were until my husband got one this past January for his birthday. Now I know what they are, but don't ask me to use his phone. A phone with Internet is pretty neat, but crazy. I'll stick to my computer with Internet, thank you very much. LOL! Most technology I embrace and know how to use, but some things are too complex for me. For instance, I've had my cell phone for over a year now and still don't know everything it does! I know I could read the manual that came with it, but it's more fun to figure it out on my own, and who has time to read a manual anyway? I'm content to stick with the same cell phone until it crashes. I don't understand RSS feeds, but I know a little bit of code (html), although I couldn't build my own website or anything. I know enough code that I could do something fancy here on MyLot...not sure that it would work, though! I guess this discussion goes to show that I still have a lot to learn and a lot to catch up on/keep up with if I want to continue to consider myself tech savvy! Excellent discussion. Technology is definitely something worth keeping up with. Take care!

Trust me, we are on the same boat bro! I can never really understand why should I use the phone other that what it is actually for. I hate too many features on my phone. A camera is fine though because it helps me freeze some precious moments in life while traveling. I love my computer and all the softwares that it has. I love new softwares and experiment with them before installing them permanently. have learnt little about HTML while updating my profile here and RSS for promoting my articles, which I hate doing.

I definitely don't like using technology I'm not comfortable with. I agree with you that cell phone with cameras are ok. Normally I don't carry around my regular camera with me, so that feature is nice. However, I think that's about it. It might be nice to have a couple applications on my phone to keep like a grocery list or something like that, but I also have an iPod Touch that I carry around with me, so that has everything else that my phone doesn't, and I know how to use the iTouch much better! I'm glad we're at the same tech level, my friend. That makes me feel good!

For a long time i could not figure out how to send a large file say more than 10 mb by email, for gmail and yahoo have thier restrictions. I very recently was shown how one could open an email account and upload the file and save as a draft. No limitation here. Ask the other person to log in to the same account and download. People around at work used to think i was savvy, and i would get a kind of ego boost thinking that i had some knowledge. Some time ago, i was confronted by a 14 year old who had much more knowledge on the internet than me. My nephew understands more of my TV features than I do. I do try and figure out how well new devices work, but i realise i'm often far behind. So am i savvy ? Hardly..., just tend to learn a few minute things that come useful.

That's a good idea. I, however, use divshare for big file sharing and also dropbox is amazing. You get to share real big files there also.

mimpi1911 I am not at all tech savvy, I have an ongoing problem on mycomputer that almost will not let me on, and it takes a number of trials to get past unexpected kernel trap, dumping memory blah blah blah. so I shut off the computer both ways, wait one minute and reboot. got past the damnable blue screen and am on now. But dread the next time, am hoping my son will come see me today and work on this for me as he is computer savvy and I am not.

when it comes to computers and the internet i would say i'm slightly above average. i know more than other people in my family. when they have questions they always ask me. of course, there have been times when i was not able to solve their problems and they had to consult the real experts (i.e. technicians). most of the stuff i know are self taught because i found computers and the internet fascinating. like when i first got on the internet i couldn't wait to have my own website, so i learned basic html stuff like creating links, bolding, changing colors, etc. my reading the source codes of other websites. when it comes to other techie stuff like cell phones or gps i'm probably below average i don't know much about 3G phones either. so don't feel bad

That's true. We learn so much through practical experience. It's only when that i was hosting my website and blog that I realised that I know so little. I started learning through hit and miss basis. And as you have rightly said, computer is user friendly and it would come up with solutions guiding you through it.

Hey mimpi! I am so not tech savvy! I didn't grow up with computers and all this tech stuff to begin with! I grew up with manual typewriters, not even electric, so that just shows how friggen old I am! I had to get used to computers from the very beginning when they first came out and that was hard! I was still working at the time so they started with simple "word processors" and then went on to computers! I got hooked pretty quickly! But, when it comes to the Internet it took me quite awhile to learn that and I had to learn it by trial and error! Now I am trying to learn my digital camera and my new printer that prints the pictures from the digital camera! I will never get it! And my "computer guy" gave me his refurbished laptop so I have to learn how to work that too!

It's amazing how time passes and how things changes and how fast we learn and adopt ourselves to the new things. Change is the only thing constant, they say. I am not that savvy also but I am a fast learner like you. I am still working on my digital camera and learning for 2 long years. It has so many features that I could never got to it fully. . Digital photo printer sounds great! My sister have one from Kodak where they provide you with the cut papers also.

I knew nothing about computers when we got our first PC, an old dinosaur my husband bought from a friend for a hundred bucks. I didn’t even know how to create a file let alone set up an email account etc! My sister was working for an internet provider at the time so she helped me set up the system and she used to patiently take my calls for help on a regular basis. I started to learn things for myself when I decided I didn’t want to continually bother my poor sister. I began to make notes and even did so as I had a technician reformat my computer. I took notes so I could do it myself the next time, which I did. I’ve kept all the notes and I can still refer to them when I need them. Every time I experience an error or a problem I investigate until I fix it and keep record in case it happens again. Yes, I am pretty good at this IT stuff now and I may even do a course one of these days so I can help others!

Sounds great! I remember, taking notes as well. I could barely insert a CD and burn data when I started off.Gradually I learned through hit and miss and my boss who was always so vocal about my ability overestimated me. I had spent sleepless nights just to get it right to cater to the credibility that he had for me. And yes, those notes still serve me..
