I just graduated with my Bachelor's Degree 2 years ago. I started to work one year after passing the licensure examination for teacher. As I was on my field, I realize that I want to learn more and to get more opportunities that will equipped me with knowledge and skills to be competitive. That is the reason I am thinking of getting a Master's Degree. How about you? Ever think of getting one after you graduated from your Bachelor's Degree?

I completed my bachelors degree in civil engineering in the year 1985. I always wanted to do masters immediately afterwords. But due financial constraints I could not take up.Instead I went in to petty jobs for two years before landing in a government job. After completing about 7 years in the Govt job I became eligible for doing a masters sponsored entirely by the Govt.So I went in to a prestigious college in our region and completed the master of technology course entirely with the govt expenses. That way I got realized my dream of doing a masters. I even think of going for a PhD now and then provided I get a chance similar to the one I got for the masters.

Both of my parents and sister have a Masters degree. I don't plan on getting one. I can't afford it, I'm not well enough to go to school again, and I don't really have a desire for it.

i wanted to get a Master's Degree in Management or Marketing. However, I became more inclined to get formal studies on interior design instead. However, for purposes of getting more knowledge and skills to be more competitive, it is recommended to take a Master's degree.

Congratulations in advance annierose, as you are already on the threshold of touching the four figure mark of 1000 posts. It is a good idea for you to obtain a Master's Degree, it will help you in your career. I am not thinking of getting a Master's Degree, because I already hold one.

I am currently working on getting a Bachelor's Degree for web design. After this, I am hoping I can get a job in this field so I can get a car, my own house, and start my life. For now, I have no plans of going back for a Master's Degree.

Going back for a Master's Degree?

i also thought about that. i got my bachelor's degree diploma in social science 4 years ago. i've worked for almost 4 years thinking all along what master's degree should i take. i resigned last 2008 to be full time student but i didn't took any graduate course and instead my parents pushed me to get another undergraduate course, this time business oriented. the goal is to become a CPA afterwards. but this summer i took a break because i want to get back to earning again. and next semester i'd either pursue accountancy (i still have 2 years to go) or i'd take subjects to become a licensed teacher. i heard it'll only need 18-30 units. also someday, i'd either go to a law school or pursue a master's degree and then a doctor's degree too.

oh no. the reason behind this set of plans is because i still don't know what i really wanted to do. to think i'm getting old. the lucky ones are those who had been pursuing a single dream since they were younger. i seriously envy them. but, thanks for your support.^_^

Congrats to you! Lifelong learning is awesome! I'm not at the Graduate degree level yet.I have been checking into my bachelor's and it's expensive! 45,000 is a hefty loan so I'm wondering what the master's would be-ouch! I graduated in 08 with my AABA and want to go on...but jobs are so scarce that I fear I will be unable to find one and will be stuck with massive loans.

From what i have seen from my two sisters - not anyone can do it... My oldest sister actually got masters degree this spring, but it was tough, all the weekends studying etc... Luckly her workplace paid for the studies and was very supportive. She always have been very tough and a fighter (8 year old daughter, single). My other sister on the other hand after getting Bachelor degree said there is no way she is returning to university... And after quite a few years now, she even streses it more - that she will most likely never return to university because she woudn`t be able to handle both work and studying in either evenings or weekends. She is always tired anyway because there is way too much work to do... Ahh, and speaking about the work - there would be no way that she could get off work a bit earlier to go to all the lectures etc... So sacraficing weekends? No thanks.

Working and studying same time entails hardwork and perseverance. I think it is difficult because I had experience being a working student when I was still taking up my Bachelor's Degree.

But still, without work you will be living off your parents for sooo long... I mean, where i live you usually finish school when you are 19, bachelor is usually 4 years (doctors etc have a lot more) and masters is at least 2 years. Its really difficult to do those 6 years in a row, you really need a break after getting bachelor`s degree...

Actually ,I have been working for almost one year after getting my Bachelor's Degree.I insist that it is better to work first ,getting some work experiences ,and then decide weither to get a master degree.

I have already my Master's Degree and I encourage you to get your Masteral too because this will help you get a better position in the future. You know I left my job 10 years ago, and one day I visited my friend who happens to be an administrator in a university, While we were conversing, she started convincing me to join the academe and be a dean in one of her departments in that school. When I ask her can she not find anybody, why me, and she said because I have my Master's Degree and am very much qualified for that position. So while you're young and have time enroll and finish your master's Degree. Good Luck!

That is so nice of you. I think that doesn't stress you much because you are just working in a part time basis. That is one advantage of having higher degree in learning.

I accepted her offer but I agreed to work on a part time basis. I have my kids to attend to so I have to limit my working time so that when my children needs me I'm always available.

hi Annierose, I thought about this for a long time. I love studying and I'm sure I'd enjoy taking a higher degree. Especially if it was in a different subject to my Bachelors (which was psychology). The only thing stopping me is money. It would be expensive to take a course, I would have to support myself and my son through it, and I would have to pay back and money borrowed. Unfortunately, higher degree doesn't always lead to higher pay. So, here I am with my Bachelors and PGCE. But, if you can afford it, I would say 'Go for it'.

We are also not rich and I just resigned from the private school where I was teaching. However, I just applied to a public school and hopefully I can be hired soon. When I was working I keep on saving money because I love to study more. My parents are very supportive also. I hope I can pass whatever problems might come along.

I have and i did! I mean i thought about it and i went ahead and did an MBA. Irronically i also started on the MBA 3 years after my graduation, I guess i needed the time to live a little! But i do not regret ever doing it, it was fun (and a lot of work) but I think it was a good experience. I think the best way is to choose a program that does not flip your live upside down completely. Its been two years after getting my Masters and now i am toying with the idea of a doctorate! Well good luck but i encourage you to go for it!!

If you feel that you still have a thirst to learn then a master's degree is good for you. Somehow here in our country, a bachelor's degree is somewhat garbage already. You need a fighting chance to be able to compete with other employees out there.

Well, having a Master's Degree will give you an edge over the others who just finished Bachelor's Degree. I also believe that luck or fortune in employment is a matter of strategies and knowledge

Actually i plan to further study my masters. after working for 5 years in engineering field, i found that working is only for $$$. If you study until very high level like Phd and you doesnt get paid as what you want, what is the meaning to further study??? but some other people is just for interest. but for me, degree is enough for us to survive but not sure for other country like US. If you study master and degree, the different is only $300? do you think you want to study master which need you to pay the fees $20K-50K and take 1-2 years to complete? This is just my thoughts

I graduated this April 2010 having a course of Bachelor of Elementary Education with concentration in Early Childhood Education. Definitely my work will be as a teacher. For me taking up a master's degree is very important because as a teacher I should never stop to learn and I should be progressive for myself and for my students to be. For other profession as we all know our world is full of competition and challenges and because of this we should be equipped with lot of knowledge and skills and I think Getting a master's Degree will help you to survive in the world of competition and also can put you on top.
