I'm new to all of this and don't have a clue where to start . How to i go about making new friends without coming across as a stalker . I am housebound most of the time so i'm relying on the internet to keep me connected to the real world .

I am also new to this.
I only signed on yesterday.
But I will tell you what little I have picked up so far.
It seems that you need to respond to as many discussions as you can, and to give good detailed replies.
I will invite you as a friend to get you started - a few people have been kind enough to invite me so far.
I'm sure that you'll enjoy t when you get into it

i'm almost as new as you are here too, and i've been having loads of fun posting & replying. it's even more fun when your new posts are interesting & exciting enough to really create discussions. when your discussions start, then it becomes even easier to make new friends here 
in fact, i'll send you a friend invite right now..
have a go at it. and when you have enough posts and activity here, you'll be able to use emoticons too! 
and then the discussions become more interesting, and you'll have more and more friends.. :)

I also have to stay in so i do not see many people so i know what you are saying.I do have friends that come to see me nearly every day which is nice.I come on here as a way of having conversation with other people and i have made some really good friends on here.I have been on this site for over a year now and it is great as all the people on here are really nice.

Join the club sister I know exactly how you feel i' home most of the time blogging etc trying to support myself with no job. You seem to be doing fine on the site just try to answer questions and post genuine questions that you want the answer to

Well, all you need to do is be friendly and be yourself at the same time. Say what's on your mind and make them believe that you're unique by staying with your belief.

I think it's pretty safe here , as long as you don't give out personal or sensitive information to anyone you talk to, unless you're comfortable to do so. I add anyone here who adds me, I respond to their emails, I treat them as I wanna be treated, but when the conversation becomes too personal and it makes me feel awkward, I stop replying :D
