Is There Really Privacy In Facebook?

Honestly, from all the events or rather hacking and exploitations of Facebook and other social networking sites, I just do not think so. In the first place these sites are created with a open concept, so that members could befriend or network with as many people as possible. They just do not have a real security protocol and how could they when they are created with an ideology that everyone is of good repute and character. Once again, news has it that Facebook accounts can be exploited with another security flaw. Well, it is not another security flaw but these sites are really without security measures. In simple terms, full of security issues and rampant flaws. So, think twice what you post in it and who you make friends with in these sites. No regrets hopefully. Many times I have actually breached the privacy of many accounts because as a marketing staff of my company, we are asked to include social sites members in our marketing strats. That's how I get to find people connected to our line of work. Some accounts are not even protected so that I could see their photos, and videos. It's funny how some people can post photos that should have remained private like pictures of them kissing with a bf/gf. I mean, why post stuffs like that?!! I don't mind if other people get a look into my account. Besides, I am pretty careful of what I put in there. Most people who nose into my FB find themselves laughing because of funny and candid photos of myself. Some even go there to enjoy! Some go there to feel less depressed. Many times people comment at how I made their day. I don't mind that. It is up to the users as to what extent they reveal themselves.

Theresaaiza, My exact sentiments here. I have my fair share of experiences watching these accounts hijacked and abused to beyond any recovery. So, I hope that this will create another level of understanding. Take care and have a nice day.

Well it's the digital era of social connections and networking. Once you join facebook or other social networking sites. Basically your info is already exposed. Company's can take advantage of offering many kinds of products just because you put your hobbies, your birthday, your relationship status and etc. So I guess my answer is there's no privacy in Facebook.

donyun247, I am happy for you that you see it and through it all. Besides, having no privacy the security is not even there, so I hope that more people will be aware of this and not let their guards down. Take care.

I enjoy using facebook and have no issue with privacy. Facebook is just like every other Social Network you only place what you want your friends to know. If you don't know someone you don't have to accept them in your friendship. I see my sister's friends, friends of friends requesting friendship which I refused. There are also names that came up from Facebook suggesting them to be my friends and I also ignore. It is for the individual who is using Social Network Sites to decide what he/she want to disclose and who he/she wants to be friends with.

kerriannc, Like you, I do have my fair share of enjoyments with Facebook and other reputed social networking sites. And, like you I am discreet with who I would want to network with, approve or befriend. However, I never post all of my personal details right to the dot for all to read, friends included and this is due to the fact that I just do not have enough confidence that they have any established security for their members. There will just be endless restrictions and obstacles for its members to be really network with ease. So, I would have to throw this warning and caution for all who believes otherwise. Let's hope that this will help with a better level of understanding.

Well it is a risk that you must take if you want to use a social networking site. So, if you want to have fun, just join the site, and just post information that you are not afraid to share to other. No matter how great is the security in facebook ( privacy system ), it will never 100% safe.

lordcaocao2025, Frankly, I believe that these social networking sites do not have any established security to begin with. So, they are never safe at all.

Social networks don't have any privacy. It is really up to the user how much information they want to divulge in their accounts. I personally limit the information I post on my account. I don't want to regret posting things on my account.

Andyvil, I am glad that you are being objective and streetwise here. There are just so many people who are ever so overconfident and careless with their personal disclosures in such sites. I hope that more people will realize that there's no such thing as security in such sites and that they should limit the amount of personal details to be posted in them.

When it comes to any online activity, in my opinion, the only sources of privacy that you really have are your own. What I mean here is that when I am using my social networking sites (which is only facebook to be completely honest), I'm not going to share any kind of information that could be harmful to myself or to my family. I'm not going to share my actual address and I definitely wouldn't take it upon myself to share the highly confidential information like my SSN or anything like that. It just isn't safe to do.

There Really a Privacy In Facebook. I am confirmed to because many multinational companies and high profile personalities have their account on facebook so if facebook wouldn't has been personal then why they have used it. I think it's the perfect answer to it.

worldview, First of all, I wondered if you had read the article (URL provided) which I had painstakingly included for the sake of this discussion. Secondly, I am sure you are saying that there is privacy in Facebook and other social networking sites which all else have pointed otherwise. So, it is obvious that you are just jumping off the cliff to a bed of rocks and say that it is not going to hurt. JUST BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING IT! But, what you do not realize is that these people actually never lived to tell what happened after that. I think it would really help and do help yourself, to read the discussion entirely before you reply. I do not know what and how you ended up with such a conclusion, but a monkey see - monkey do kind of attitude and prerogative ain't what we call objective and sensible. So, do the necessary for the your own sake.
