Who would you call?

In a rather complicated situation, myself my girlfriend and a friend yesterday, ended up trying to save a dying baby chick. It had been trampled on (we believe) byt its brothers and/or sisters. Well the young girl who was housesitting came round all of a panic saying one of the chicks was dying, the poor thing was nearly in tears, so I went round and tried to see what I could do. the poor thing was barely alive,We took it out and wrapped it in a towel and put it under a table lamp, and beyond that, I had no idea what I was doing. So my we called the "chicken man" who looks after chickens (surprisingly) and he wasn;t in. So the only other thing I knew what to do was to call my friend Pete, he is the smartest person I know and I just thought "call pete" WEll Pete calmed us down and talked us through what we needed to do, but sadly the chick didn't make it. But we did everything we could Who would you call in a situation and why would you call them?

I'm so sorry to hear about your little chick! It's sad when something to little, cute and innocent like that, doesn't make it. I've found injured birds before, like if one is stunned from hitting the window, but haven't had much luck in saving them. We have farm stores that have been able to give advice, foods and other necessities, but with internal damage (and they are so fragile) it's hard to save them. One thing you did accomplish, even though the chick wasn't saved, was to give comfort in it's final hours. That is a blessing to be able to do that for innocent little creatures.

My dad used to raise chickens and hatch his own chicks. If I had a sick chick I'd call him first. My second choice would be a vet who treats birds.

I would call the local feed store. They often have chick days where they are responsible for hundreds of baby chicks at a time. They would usually have someone on staff that could help walk you through the problems.

Here in the UK we have the RSPC (Royal Society for Cruelty to Animals) andthey have special lines to call. We recently had to call them out to an injured swan that was on our lawn and couldn't move. Poor chicken!!
