A pill that will help you live to 100 and beyond may be available within two years, The Sun reported Wednesday.
The drugs — a spin-off from research into age-related illnesses such as Alzheimer's — are already being developed, according to an American professor.
"Pharmaceutical companies are developing these drugs now," professor Nir Barzilai, one of the world's leading experts on aging, told fellow scientists at a London conference. "They will probably be available for testing from 2012."
The breakthrough follows intensive research into what makes cells die — and why some people dodge major illnesses such as cancer, diabetes and dementia.
The New York professor's own team at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine has pinpointed genetic variants that let people live to a "ripe old age."
Those with anti-aging genes tend not to get seriously ill towards the end of their lives — but die suddenly.
"People who die between 70 and 80 are sick in the last few years of their life. Centenarians are dying healthy," Barzilai said.
What do you think? Would you take something to live longer? I like the idea of less sickness but I wonder just how long we should live. There are a lot of issues that come with people living longer. But the less sickness may help some of these factors. What is your opinion?

I'd like to live long enough to experience all I want to experience but not live old enough that mt body and brain started to disintergrate and my quality of life became rubbish. Also there is no point in living if none of your close family and friends are around, you just become a forgotten person, and end up lonely. That can't be very fulfilling.

I wanna live the normal span. I don't wanna elongate it. If I'm offered to live like an elf, immortal then I'd take it. Lol. Those are two different things. An elf doesn't age one bit and that's what I want.
Besides, other means to elongate life can have harmful side effects. I'd rather die normally than live with only one side of the brain working or something.

hello laglen,
I am a person who does not take vitamins, and i am so guilty when my boyfriend tells me that i should because i am on a night shift. for me, i would want to have a meal that will make me live longer, not some medicines and stuff like that because i believe that all medicines have side effects on us even if they are conducting studies and researches for it they will still have some failures.
Only time and god can tell of how long we are going to live. the important thing is, we should be very cautious on what we eat and have a healthy lifestyle.
