When going to the supermarket do you take time to check the the expiry date of the item you wish to buy? Myself used to check expiration date especially perishable goods.I never forget to check when its gonna be expired because sometimes it can't keep for few days and it need to be consume otherwise it turn waste after all. Sometimes I can't even hardly see and ask the staff to check it for me. How reasonable to get it check? Well maybe I'm just being safe, lol. How about you my fellow myLotters are you keen of checking the expiry date of those item you are buying,? I would love to hear from you! Happy myLotting!

Hi cloud, Me too! I'm very particular with the expiration date of the goods I buy at supermarket especially food. After looking into the nutritional facts I would check on the expiration date especially if I see that the goods are on sale. This would give me a second thought to buy the product or not. Well, doing this is just being smart and as a wise buyer.

When I go shopping thats the first thing I check, I dont want something lasting me for 1 week and then rotting, no time to eat it. To me it has to last for about 2-3 weeks.

Not only that I check the expiry date of all the items I buy at the supermarket but I also read what it contains. I care a lot about my health and I don't want to eat any unhealthy product. Perishable goods can be dangerous for health. And you are right, labels are sometimes written in so small letters that they can hardly be read. But I have a magnifier with me to be able to read the expiry date and other details!

Yez of course. But not with newly bought ones. I only care about them when those stuffs are old and also those stored goods at the cabinet. I think its really important to check expiry dates. You don't wanna be eating expired goods that are bad to the health

Honestly I am not very keen on expiry dates except for yogurt. I always make sure that the yogurt is still good to eat as it has a shorter shelf-life compared to other stuffs that I usually buy in the supermarket.

I do on some things especially if it is expensive. The rest I do to some degree but not always. If it is the stores history to try to sell old stuff then I do check. If not, I don't. If I am new to a store I will check for a while until I get the idea of how they function. Then I don't anymore.

I'm glad you are aware of this too.Thank you and Take care!

I always do pay attention to all the stuffs I buy at the supermarket because I had had many unwanted situations in the past where I found out that a product is expired and the man does not want to take it back though I told him that he should not be selling expired stuffs. It's always good to check.

Hello med, That's is sad knowing that the shop owner doesn't want to take it back or even replaced it.They should be very sure of all their products must be carefully check so it won't ruin their reputation. Anyway now I'm glad you've been very aware of it. Thanks and Happy myLotting!

of course, that's obvious enough. you don't want to be eating expired canned foods, even those packed with other materials... although, there's some allowance to expiry dates, it pays to be cautious, you know. better safe than sorry, as they say.

Hi, yes I am very particular with the expiration date. We need too. For health purposes of course. One has to be vigilant because expired items cause you too many health troubles, one of these is food poisoning. As a mother, I'm very meticulous because I don't want my family and myself to suffer a health ailments in the near future.

whenever and whatever i want to buy from supermarket, i'd like to do the checking of the expiry date of goods. supermarket is a big place full of nearly all kinds of stuff in our lives. so it's normal that there may be some expired goods in the market. so we should check the foods' expiry date each time to avoid the goods problem.

it's so funny to see this post because just the other day i came across this very issues. I was in the market looking for stew tomatoes for my chilli. Every single can that i picked up had expired. or worst, didn't even have a date on it. When i told the guy who worked there, he said oh.. these are good, something the date comes off if they sit there to long!!!!! I could not believe he just said that too me!!!!. I said well that can must have been sitting there for years if the damn date came off. I will never shop here again!!!! Gross and worst, dangerous!!

Hello 34momma, That's so embarrassing isn't it? How could a shop keeper can advice a consumer like that? Its kind of disappointments keeping yourself patronizing their store. It said to know that there are people like what you have encountered.Anyway, that's also a good way to know how deal with their customers. Thank you for sharing your experienced and that's a lesson for us, too. Thanks and Happy myLotting!

Biscuit - Biscuit with cream center
Yes I am pretty concerned about the expiry dates on the packaging of the food. In fact I used to study food science and we're trained to read the ingredients and look out for the expiry dates. So it becomes a 'bad' habit for me when I visit the supermarts or convenient stores. It is not only food, but also daily use products like face wash and shampoo, because some of the chemicals can self-degrade after storing for too long. So far I have not encountered anything on the shelf that is beyond the expiry dates. However there is a local store selling Japanese beverages and snacks that offers some of the products close to the expiry dates (about one week before expiry date) at 50% discount. I bought some biscuits and found the quality to be acceptable, they are still fragrant and crispy, perhaps because they are individually wrapped in aluminium foil. I believe I can trust Japanese food products because of their strict quality control but I don't think I would buy food products close to expiry dates from other countries of manufacture.

Hello naka75, That's nice to hear about your concerned with all these stuff, I have that habit as well I can stay for even a couples of hours just to take a serious look over different goods and what made of.There are food closed to expiry dates and that still acceptable unless its really due.I'm glad reading your concept about things and their expiration.I admire you for being aware of anything. Thank you for sharing and Happy myLotting!

I probably should but if I did that-I'd be in the store forever and I try to get out as fast as I can! I bought some evaporated milk once for baking and got home, went to use it and it smelled spoiled-well guess what? It was! I didn't check..but that's the store associate's jobs to do that so the consumer doesn't-I know this as I used to work for Walmart some years ago.
