Good for you. I've always believed that it's never too late to become who you might have been.

Having these goals may actually help you not be in so much pain. If you are safe to drive I would say to do it. Good luck in all you do. It will help you feel in control of your life if you are able to regain some of your freedom.

Don't hurt yourself but hang onto that determination! If your quality of life is suffering, you are right to take steps to change things. Your children need you and you should be able to enjoy raising them as much as possible. I don't know what physical problem you have but nearly anything can be overcome or made better, especially if you are determined not to let it get you down. You go girl!

That's Faith! Knowing that you can do what you want to do despite what the doctors say. Your mind has a way of responding to your resolve and giving your body the power to execute it. So keep believing and soon the pain will get bored and go away all by itself :)

hi jugsjugs good for you, thats the spirit, take control and get things smoothed out in your life. If you can only get your poor feet well that would be great. I have one bad foot that makes it hard for me to walk but its not painful, what is painful is my right good knee, arthritis and I need to talk to my doctor as I think he needs to up the dosage on my arthritis medication. I just really need to be able to go for walk againl Hope your plans now succeed. good luck and God bless

I am sorry you are having a bad time. I hope you don't make some rash decisions you might be sorry for later on. There must be a reason that your doctor doesn't want you to drive.

Keep fighting, that's the only way to win! Do what you can, and be wise about it.That way you'll lead yourself right out of the hole! Keep going doing as much as you can every day without doing too much!

Ah. It is your life. Why would it cause pain to you for getting it back. You are not giving it to someone else. So why the pain. Once you do what you want to do, all the pain disappears. I know it would difficult. But still, try doing what you want and see that the pain will no longer trouble you.

You sound a lot like I am. I have suffered from severe back problems in the past and I was actually told that the pain that I was suffering from would persist until I lost weight and had surgery. I went to physical therapy and just worked a little bit harder every day. It has now been over five years since I was told this and I've only had to deal with bouts of pain occasionally since about four years ago. No, I've never had the surgery.

Good for you! Like yourself, I'd like to think that when I get my mind into something, nobody could stop me. No matter what the doctors say, I think that it is good that you are determined to get your life back. If for nothing else, just to prove them all wrong! Goodluck!

I know how you feel, I was unable to drive because of a serious neck injury. I got my license back in 1997 and have been driving since. I too suffer from pain, and expecting the pain to increase because of a deteriorating lower back. I decided that I am not going to let the pain stop me. Have you tried a pain clinic? I am trying to get to one myself. The orthopedic surgeon recommended it when he told me how bad the lower back was. He also was so stunned that I am dealing with the pain so well. Each of us has to decide what we want to do, how we are going to do it, and set our sights on doing it. Getting a smaller car may be just what you need to help control the pain. I know the pain I was in after driving a 250 mile round trip. I could hardly walk, but I worked my way through the pain and am keeping on going. You can do it Lady, I believe in you!

Like you I intend to drive myself as long as I can, but I have had to make some adjustments. I am no longer comfortable driving at night because it has become almost impossible for me to see after dark. I realize that that is something that comes with age so I try real hard to get everything I have to do done before dark so I can be back home before it gets dark. On those occasions when I just have to drive at night I always take the roads I'm familiar with and the ones that have the most lighting. I know the time is coming when I will probably have to give up driving altogether and that will be very difficult for me. I joking refer to myself as a nervous passenger. Even if the person is a very good driver with no record of accidents my nerves just go all to pieces when I have to ride with someone else. I guess it's because if I'm not driving I'm not in control.

being able to drive is not everything, so is a walk with the kids to their school. i've been driving for more than 30 years when my doctor told me to refrain from doing so due to some off-and-on defect that significantly affect my vision. and i have not been driving since. i tried getting a driver, but after two drivers and several accidents and brushes with traffic officers, i decided that drivers are not for me. so, i just take the public transport system and use the car on occasions when i have to drive the wife to the supermarket or go on short errands.
