There are thousands of expats from all over the world living in the Philippines mostly with Local wives. However, they have all chosen to live out their retirement there as I intend to do one day. There is something magical about the Philippines and it has many attractions for the foreigner. Some say it is the wonderful tropical climate or the beautiful scenery or the food or shopping or beaches etc. Others say it is the low cost of living and still others say it is because the local people are just lovely. Is it any one of these or a combination of them all that makes the Philippines such a magical place. I have had a couple of visits and just find it so interesting and I just love it. What do you reckon.

Nick, first time I heard such an idea. I don't know yet if I like it or not. I was kinda thinking the Philippines, with its pristine white sand beaches, could be a haven for hot blood hyperactive tourists. But for retirees? Well, Japan has many old people. The climate there is conducive to old age. And the cherry blossoms are good for old people.

The Philippine government is now actively looking at ways to make the Philippines a retirement haven for foreigners because they recognize the potential economic benefit. So you could soon see lots of retirement homes all over the Philippines full of foreigners. It would create lots of local jobs. What do you think.

You can feel proud to be a Filipino. It is a wonderful country full of wonderful people. It is a shame that so many have to work overseas away from family and friends.

Actually most Filipinos who work overseas are just force to do so to earn for a living, I mean, who would want to be separated from their families, right? Blame the government for that
