Well, the roomie has been telling me about this book for several years. I have, off and on, done some searches for it to no avail. Well, today, using the mylot search (thanks MYLOT!) I found it! I also got a reward from mylot for using their search! So, not only did I get the book she's been looking for since the early 1970's, I got rewarded for doing so! What more could anyone ask for? She's going to save up and get it - tho it would be cool, since its now on her wish list on Amazon, if someone would GIVE it to her. Her birthday is in November... joking - obviously... So, have you ever had more luck with the mylot search than any others? This is the first time I've had luck and this was a Newberry Honor book, so it should've shown up before!

Congrats to the both of you then. You for earning for the search, and her for finally being able to put it on her wish list. I see the wishlists on these sites and realize you can email them to people, but too bad there isn't just a big secret santa site wherein people upload their wishlists and people can buy the item for them and it be shipped to the receiver's house.

Honestly, I do very little searching with Mylot, because I did it a lot, then I did not get rewarded, so I am pouting. I have found out of print books at A Libris and I love the site. I shop through MyPoints and get MyPoints for my shopping. My points then get redeemed for gift cards, again, a win win situation.

aww, granted, if I search stuff I've searched before I don't get rewarded, but new stuff... that's when the rewards have been given for me

I do try every once in awhile, especially when I run across something in a discussion. My other problem is if I am on another site, it is not as easily accessible as the search for points engine I am using. I sometimes feel like there is nothing new to search.

I haven't searched anything but stuff that's new! Well, new to me, anyway...& lately I haven't had any luck with searching at all for something I want; instead it starts showing me old discussions I've long forgotten! What's up with that? Has something changed? Did I do something wrong? What?! I'm gonna go pout, now. Maggiepie "When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much he had learned in 7 years. ~ Mark Twain, "Old Times on the Mississippi" Atlantic Monthly, 1874

I always use the myLot search and get very good results. I don't know why some people don't get results. Works for me. (Plus, like you, I get rewarded for doing so.) So, what's the book about? (Never heard of Newbery Honor.)

Ok ElicBxn, I'm at a loss here. What is the myLot search? Is this something new? I only was able to come back to myLot a few weeks ago because of my computer, but I can't find any information on it down below. Geez, do I feel dumb right now. At the top I see a Yahoo search, but not myLot. Is this something you download like swagbucks? I'm happy after all this time, you've finally found what you're looking for, wow, and you've been looking for years? That's awesome, I wish I had it because I would give it to her, it would be a nice surprise wouldn't it?

Well now I feel really stupid. I thought there was something new going on and I missed it like downloading a searchbar or something, duh to me, HaHa. I didn't know myLot rewarded you though for using it. Thank you dear.

I never get any result from the MyLot web search, though I have used it to search discussions from time to time and got rewarded for that. I think that this is a problem that several people have had with it as well, though it's been a while since I last used it, so maybe they have fixed it by now.

No, the one Win, is finding the book, Floating Island, the other Win is being rewarded for searching for it. I did a link to the book in another response...

I was on that very page a few months back looking for a Newbury Award book for Cary's book report. Floating Island kind of sounds like Baum's Sky Island, but probably not very alike...

I got 14 cents once for using it, but never again. Sigh... Maggiepie "When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. Sigh...well, I have learned not to ask why our payouts were different, but I sure do wish I knew--because I'd do it again! I've made payout too, but I'm going to try not to draw it for at least a month. Maggiepie "...any nation - including Iran - should have the right to access peaceful nuclear power." ~ B.O.

you do kind of have to keep after it, because if I know enough about something, I can generally get a "hit" on my first search

That’s great, what a double bonus, you found what you were looking for and you got a reward! I hope your roommate manages to get the book eventually; she’s got something to look forward to now! I have problems using the MyLot search facility because each and every time I use this is what comes up: No results were found for the specified search criteria. Try another search or try one of the related topics below. I am puzzled as to why this happens and what I can do about it. Does anyone have any ideas?

I've found a number of things, like I was searching for the name of the race car driver and got a 9 cent reward from when I found it on wikipedia!

I have only used the MyLot search engine once. I don't do all that many searches, and when I do I always forget about it. I will have to try it again. I thought all the searches were the same. Obviously not!

it has taken some retraining to get to using it more, but hey, they are sometimes rewarding me, so that makes it worth it

I am very happy that you were able to find the book you was looking for! I love it when I search and out of no where something that I was looking for shows up! It is also a plus when you use a site that rewards you to search! I do not use this search option her eon Mylot as much as I should but I do some times! This makes me want to start using the Mylot search more! Happy Mylotting!

Hi Elic well I must be doing something wrong then, every time I try to search on mylot I get the answer no search or something like that and I mean every time so either I am doing something wrong, which somehow I do not think so, or something is wrong lol Glad you found what you where looking for though

I think the searches on mylot are great! I found wonderful sign language sites. To search long and hard for something and finally find it has got to be very rewarding.

I have used the search button on mylot from time to time but I never have been rewarded for it. This must be some new thing they're doing now. Maybe they will reward me next time. You never know. Congratulations to both you and your roommate.
